News Release:
Omaha Police investigate suspected murder-suicide
Friday, October 17, 2025

The Omaha Police Department (OPD) Homicide Unit is investigating the suspicious death of a woman that has been classified as an apparent murder-suicide.

Officers were initially dispatched to an apartment in the 4300 block of N 65th Street for a death investigation call shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Responding officers and detectives determined there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the 39-year-old woman, who was identified as Shauna Shook.

Through interviews, and with assistance from the OPD Real-Time Operation Center, detectives quickly identified a person of interest: Benjamin Myers, 39, Ms. Shook's boyfriend.

With assistance from the OPD ABLE-1 helicopter crew, detectives located Mr. Myers’ vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart at 10504 S. 15th Street in Bellevue, Nebraska. The quick work of intelligence analysts from both the Omaha Police Department and the Bellevue Police Department helped investigators rapidly identify and locate the vehicle. Bellevue Police officers then found Mr. Myers inside the vehicle suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), where he later died.

At this point in the investigation, detectives are not looking for any other persons of interest related to the case.

The Omaha Police Department extends its deepest condolences to all families and friends involved in this tragic incident.

I'm giving my plants a fresh drink of water, but that's not what this photo is about. It's about staging your safety products. Look closely, do you see it? I have a spare canister of pepper spray staged near my front door. If an unfavorable situation occurred when I answer the door, I have something useful within reach.

Do you need help with staging safety products around your home? I can help with that.
