The Official Website is up!!

Skull & Laurel was built on a simple belief: the oldest questions are still worth asking. What makes a good life? What do we owe one another? How do we remain calm when life becomes chaotic, courageous when we are afraid, and purposeful when we are unsure where we belong? We believe philosophy

Not everything in life goes your way. That’s reality. This is a hard lesson for adults but an even harder lesson for kids. What matters is how they learn to respond to it.

That’s why this book was written. Little Stoics, simple stories that help kids understand big ideas like patience, courage, and staying calm when things feel overwhelming. Written for all kids, but especially helpful for those who experience the world a little differently, including many on the autism spectrum.

No lectures. No fluff.
Just steady, practical lessons they can grow into and come back to.
This isn’t a “read it once and forget it” kind of book, it is a “read it, talk about it, and maybe hear your kid quote it back to you later” kind of book.

Most of what you are stressing about hasn’t happened. Heck even if it does, it likely won’t happen the way you imagined. We speculate about so much form our retirement and Wars, to our family’s future.

However speculation even though sometimes it feels that way is not control. It’s just borrowed stress. Pulling stress from future you over an outcome that may never even happen. We cannot control war, inflation or crooked politicians. What we can control is how we respond, react and conduct ourselves in response to the situation.

This is why it is ever so important that we stay grounded. Keep ourselves present in the moment and take life on a day to day basis. Do your job, lead your family and control what’s in your ability to control. Then let the rest unfold naturally.

Some reminders are meant to comfort.

Others are meant to steady the hand.

These pieces were created as quiet companions for the study, the office, the place where decisions are made and character is shaped.

Courage is not always loud.
Progress is not always convenient.
Time is not always generous.

Yet meaning is always within reach.

We do not control the length of life, but we do shape its meaning.

Speak when necessary.
Listen when wisdom calls for it.
Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.

Discipline over impulse.
Purpose over comfort.
Legacy over noise.

If you don’t rise to your goals.
You fall to your habits.

Most people wait for motivation.
But discipline doesn’t wait.

It shows up when you don’t feel like it.
It acts when no one is watching.
It builds…quietly, daily, relentlessly.

The Stoic path isn’t complicated…
It’s just not easy.

Control what you do today.

Not next week.
Not someday.
Today.

Small actions. Repeated.
That’s the whole game.

What’s one habit you’re building right now?
