There’s a specific vocabulary for scamming people in addiction treatment. Many people have never heard it, which is exactly how it keeps working.

Patient brokering. A referral fee for a person in crisis. These are real terms for how fraudulent operators turn recovery into revenue, and the scary part is that from the outside, it looks no different than real treatment.

stoptheshuffle, a film whose impact campaign we support, drags the language into the light. Its director is in recovery, and he knew these words long before he made a film about them.

Rocky and the 1946 team are in Amsterdam this week, still bringing this film to new rooms around the world.

1946 began with a single mistranslation and the belief built around it. At the WorldPride Human Rights Conference, the team convenes faith leaders to reexamine who writes these narratives and what shifts when they’re reclaimed.

We backed 1946 The Movie early. Years later it’s still doing something rare: moving from the screen into the rooms where belief gets discussed and rewritten.

Jewish Film Institute’s Doc Lab is the only U.S. fellowship built specifically for feature-length Jewish documentaries.

It’s a year-long program: mentorship, a pitch forum, a travel stipend to San Francisco, and access to JFI’s screening room. One alum has since had his films play more than 200 festivals across five continents.

You finished the film. The distributors went quiet. That happened to Sharon “Rocky” Roggio too, even after a record-breaking premiere at DOC NYC and more than 25 audience awards.

So she built her own path to an audience instead, and kept going long after many filmmakers would have stopped.

SHUFFLE is a film about young people being moved between addiction treatment facilities based on their insurance value, not their care needs. It’s also, according to Humanitas, one of the year’s most nuanced examples of writing that explores the human condition.

Ben Flaherty is nominated for the 2026 HUMANITAS in Documentary Feature Length. He wrote, directed, edited, and shot the film.

Shoot the same story in two places, and you end up with two different films.

, who directed Lowland Kids, builds her work inside worlds shaped by nature. The films here each prove the point in a different way, and we backed all three. You feel the place pressing on every choice the characters make.
