Hello! I love to acknowledge people who are making an impact! My name is Mary Catherine, but my friends call me MC. It does not need to be a grand gesture.

I spend a lot of time promoting locally owned small businesses and people doing good in the community through my nonprofit, Coffee & Cocktails with MC. However, I created THIS page as a place to acknowledge people that I personally interact with on a daily basis who go above and beyond. If someone has taken a moment to do something that impacts my day, I want to acknowledge them! People work h

ard, and I think people focus too much energy on only noticing the bad. I want to acknowledge the good! People just want to feel valued and feel seen. This is my simple way of doing that. I hope it inspires you to do the same!

This is Dawn!

I get a lot of imaging 🩻 done, as a result of my shunt 🧠 and other issues I have.

Because of that, I am a frequent patient at the local imaging office in Odenton.
I have spotlighted several other people from this office before, but this is my first time giving a shout out to Dawn!

Because of my vision impairment, I require a lot of additional assistance when I go to the doctors office.
That can include help filling out forms that cannot be done electronically, and even guiding me safely to a waiting area and back when it’s my turn.

Dawn did all of this today and more! She took the time to help me get signed in, read me paperwork that was not available digitally, and explained things to me.
When my appointment was over, she even offered to walk me outside to where my ride was waiting.
(I didn’t need her to do that, but I completely appreciated her willingness to go above and beyond by offering.)
I know that’s not something that she would normally have to do.

I am so fortunate that I go to care providers that have compassionate and caring staff.
It’s not always like that!

I know that healthcare providers have a tough job and not every patient they work with is in the best of moods and, as a result, often times the provider is on the receiving end of negativity, stress, and probably some fear. Well, it may not always be the intention of the patient to be that way, it can make the care providers job that much more difficult.

That is one of the many reasons I want to make sure I always recognize those who go above and beyond.

This is Kait!

My friends and I had dinner at Rams Head Roadhouse this evening and Kait took care of us.

Kait was fantastic. She was kind and patient with us. When we asked her for different recommendations and about different items on the menu, she was both helpful, but also honest.

Kait did a great job. She was very proactive and made sure we had everything we needed and never had to ask for anything. She was always one step ahead of us!

As you may know, I tend to be a bit of a character sometimes and think I have jokes. While some times that can be annoying, Kait was fantastic. She joked right back and never missed a beat!

Working in a restaurant is a tough job. So, when you have somebody who helps you that is friendly, personable, but also as professional as she was, it’s very important to let them know how awesome they are.

Kait made my friends and my experience that much more enjoyable tonight! She was fantastic.

If you ever have an occasion to go to this restaurant, you should definitely ask for her if she is working. You will not regret it.

My mother and I went to a new salon today.
Mom got a perm and I got a long overdue haircut.

Ariana, the stylist who took care of my mom was phenomenal. She took extra time and care to answer all of my mom’s questions and they worked together to determine what would be best for my mom with her current needs and abilities.

My stylist, Belinda was equally as amazing. Belinda listened to me as I explained that, although I have very long hair and it’s a blank canvas that she could probably do a lot with, she understood that all I wanted was to cut the length. She was not pushy or tried to convince me to do something else, as many stylists have been before. She also did a phenomenal job explaining exactly what she was doing because she knew I was visually impaired and might have a difficult time seeing the length or how she was cutting it. She took great time and care to make sure I was happy and confident with the process.

It’s always scary when you go to a new salon. People tend to build relationships with their stylist and when you go to someone new, it can sometimes be awkward or stressful. Ariana and Belinda made today’s visit very welcoming and comfortable for my mom and I!

Belinda was kind enough to take a selfie with me. Because Ariana was not my stylist. I thought she might find it weird if I asked her to do the same. 😂 However, rest assured, she was equally as amazing.

In any organization or community, there are those who consistently go the extra mile. They're the ones who volunteer to stay late, tackle difficult problems with a positive attitude, and support their colleagues without being asked.

Recognizing these people isn't just about saying "thank you."
It's about showing them their hard work and dedication haven't gone unnoticed, and that we value the effort they put in to make things better for everyone.

Let's take a moment to celebrate the unsung heroes in our lives.

This is Johnny!
Johnny owns JQ Electric.
We have used them several times, for our rental properties, as well as our primary residence.

Today Johnny was out doing a small job for us and, like every other time, he was amazing.

This may seem like a business referral, and it would probably make sense that I post it on my nonprofit page, Coffee & Cocktails with MC, however, it’s not just about what a great company this is, but about how great of a person Johnny is.

As you know, when a contractor comes to the house, it’s almost like a social event for me.
It’s always nice to have somebody to talk to and chat with a little bit.
I just try not to get in their way. 🙂

Johnny always does a great job, but is also very friendly and accommodating.
He’s just a good guy!

When you come across people who are genuine and awesome, whether it’s a business connection or a personal connection, it’s always nice to recognize them.

Johnny was even willing to indulge me when I asked for a selfie!

I have said it before, but it absolutely bears repeating…

Telling somebody that you appreciate them or how they have impacted your day means so much.
You have no idea what it can do for a person to simply be acknowledged!

I created this page as a way to do that. However, you don’t have to put much effort into simply saying thank you to someone or telling them that you appreciate them.

People just want to be seen.

Those three words mean more to someone than simply saying “I appreciate it.”

Recognizing when someone goes above and beyond or simply brightens your day is so simple.

Three simple words.
They might not mean much to you, but they could mean so much to the person who hears them.

This is Sarah!

Tony and I have been thinking about getting a whole house 🏠 generator for quite some time.
Since having Mom move in, it’s really become something that we feel necessary due to the frequency of power ⚡️ outages we tend to have and being on a well.
(Being without power in general is not a big deal, but it’s a big adjustment to not be able to flush the toilet or run the water when the power goes out, when you’ve been used to it for so long, like my mom has been.)

Sarah is co-owner of Generator Supercenter of Annapolis and today she came out to give me an estimate.

Sarah was so patient and thorough with me. She answered all of my numerous questions ❔ and worked up multiple estimates, with different scenarios.

She knows her stuff!
She was able to provide a fantastic option for our somewhat unique situation, being that the apartment and main house have two different panels, but we can tie them into the same whole house generator with the solution she came up with.

One of the main reasons I’m giving her a shout out, however, is because she took the extra time to let me talk her ear off while she was working up the estimates, and she never rushed me, although I know I’m not the only appointment she had today.

When someone takes the time to listen to you and make you feel special and valued, they deserve recognition. Sarah is not only a very intelligent and professional business owner, but she’s a compassionate person and that’s something I look for when I’m making a determination on where I want to give my business!

In most of his videos, you will actually hear him say “I love you” to people who are pretty much strangers to him.

I always tell my family I love them. However, I also tell my friends I love them.
I know not everybody does that, but it’s important for me to let the people in my life know how much they mean to me.

If I tell you, I love you, I promise you I mean it.
I don’t just say it.

Share the good.
Help lift others up.
It costs you nothing and it will make you feel so good inside.

This is Clara!

She is the amazing tech who took my CAT scan images today.

Super awesome! She was very accommodating and took extra time to help me because of my she was very friendly and personable, but also knew what she was doing for sure

Clara is from New York and I could tell because she had a slight accent when we were chatting so I asked her about it. 😂

Getting CAT scans or MRIs or x-rays or stuff like that does not bother me. However, I know a lot of people get very anxious in that kind. Clara would be able to calm them down and would be such a compassionate and caring person to help them.

Not pictured, I also saw my front desk friend, Angel (who I’ve posted about previously) and met a new friend named Dawn today!
She was great. She guided me back to where I needed to sleep, and she was also very friendly.
A bonus is that she laughed at all my corny jokes. 😂

Instead of focusing on negative interactions we might have, I try hard to focus on the positive.
All of the ladies I had the pleasure of interrupting with this morning were awesome and I just wanted to tell you a little bit about them!

This is Christina!

I’ve known Christina for many years, but we’ve only seen each other in passing once since working together decades ago.

However, she knows that I collect Starbucks mugs, and when she traveled to Vermont recently, she made a point of reaching out to me to see if I needed the mug.

Although she does not exactly live down the street, today she made a point of going out of her way to deliver the mug to me in person and we spent a fantastic few hours together chatting and enjoying each other’s company.

I am giving her a shout out because, she did not have to do that.
She could’ve dropped the mug in the mail to me or not even reached out to me at all.

People who make the effort to do something kind for someone else deserve to be acknowledged.

Instead of spending so much time and energy on negativity, it’s important that I shed a light on the people who show kindness, not just to me, but in general.

Thank you for the mug, and for the visit.
It was so great to see you!
