This is Kenya!

Today, I needed to get more imaging 🩻 done.
I went to the facility I typically go to, and yes, I saw my friends, Dawn & Clara.
However, today was my first time meeting Kenya.
She was there filling in, but is usually at a different location in Annapolis.

Kenya was awesome.
She was taking care of so much! She was handling the front desk, but also made sure I got back to where I needed to be, helped me fill out paperwork because I wasn’t able to read it, and checked on me a few times while I was waiting.

Kenya was a bundle of energy!
And, she’s petite like me :-)
(Read that as a fellow shorty.😂😉)

While I do get CAT scans pretty regularly, I have not had to get them quite so often as I have recently.
So, I didn’t think I’d be meeting anyone new. (I figured I pretty much knew everyone in that office.)
It was so great to make a new friend today.

While I focus on acknowledging the caregivers and people who I come across in my day-to-day on this page, I feel it’s also important to remind people that you can never tell the people in your life enough how much you love them and how amazing do you think they are.

I am so fortunate to have amazing family members and dear friends who are always there for me.

Life can be tough.
Not every day is a great day.
However, when you can have a chat or a text conversation with somebody who you love and trust and makes you feel better, it can change your whole perspective!

Take the time to tell the people in your life how much they means to you!

Today I had an appointment at Johns Hopkins Medicine to have my programmable shunt setting changed because it was not draining enough.
(If you ever have questions about what hydrocephalus is, or about my shunt and how it functions, please do not hesitate to ask!)

I met a physicians assistant, who is on  the team and is awesome.
However, my appointment was with, and adjustment was done by CRNP DNP Christina Ritter.

She is patient and so incredibly knowledgeable. She takes the time to correspond  with me through messages via MyChart and has even called me after hours to discuss my courses of action.

I’ve said it before, but I am so incredibly fortunate to have access to and get care from the team at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Dr. Mark Luciano the only neurosurgeon I would ever let take a scalpel to my brain, however, Christina Ritter is the person who I know can care for me and understands my symptoms.

Never take your health for granted.
And, make sure that you find a care team that truly understands you and that you feel comfortable with.

This is Tracy!

Tracy is a member of the administrative staff at the dental 🦷 office where I have been going for decades!

When Tony and I were there a few weeks ago for our cleanings, Tracy was not working.
So, when my mother and I went today for my mom’s appointment, I was prepared since I knew I would see her!

Tracy is awesome.
She knows all of the patients and she is very thorough and can answer all of your questions.
She is professional and knowledgeable, but also very fun loving and personable.

Tracy truly cares about the patients and is one of the reasons our family has gone to this practice as long as we have!
The staff is just amazing!

This is Rebecca!

I had a medical appointment this morning, and per usual, I utilized paratransit to get there.
Rebecca was my driver this morning!

She was awesome.
Literally, before I could even get off my porch to walk towards the van, she was already out and coming over to help me. She did not have to do that!

She made sure I got in safely, helped me get buckled in, and we were on our way.
During the ride, we had a very nice conversation. We talked about so many different things, and I appreciated her point of view and her sharing her thoughts with me.

When we arrived at the appointment, we were early, and she had a little time to spare before she had to go to her next stop, so we were able to finish our chat and it was so nice!

It’s so important to take the time to get to know people as individuals.
I am so fortunate that this service and so many other opportunities I am given have provided a means for me to meet such awesome people!

Meet Tammy & Sherrie!

Tammy is the rockstar 🌟 that runs the front desk at my dental 🦷 office.
She is kind, patient, and makes everybody feel so at ease!
She remembers all of the patients and always makes me feel so welcome.
Even when I know she was busy, she always listens and never makes me feel like I am keeping her.
She is awesome.

Sherrie is the most amazing dental hygienist you will ever meet!
She will have you feeling and looking like 1 million bucks 💴 ✨ when she is done and, she is gentle and very careful.
She also makes you feel very comfortable when you are laying there in the chair. She engages in conversation with you, making you a little less awkward about having your mouth wide open 👅 and probably drooling. 😂.

My husband and I have been going to this dental practice since we were teenagers and the office was located behind the Pizza Hut that he and I both worked at!!
These ladies have worked there for just as long.
They are a big reason why my husband and I, and probably many of their other patients, have gone there for so long.

Recently, there have been some big changes in the dental office, however, these ladies remain a constant and continue to do a fantastic job; not only with their duties, but making all of the patients feel so special.

This is Greysen & Ariana!

Several weeks back, Mom and I went to KM Salon so I could get my hair cut and Mom could get hers done as well.

Mom was not entirely happy with what she got.
Ariana did a fantastic job, but Mom decided she wanted to go a slightly different route.

So, today, when we went back, Ariana spent a great deal of time listening to us and making several suggestions based on what Mom said she ultimately wanted to be able to do.
Together, we came up with a game plan and Mom was very pleased with it.

As Mom was getting her hair done, I watched Greysen. She was amazing! She did a fantastic job, making sure that all of the clients that came in were attended to quickly, and she did it with a smile on her face.
She also worked hard to make sure that all of the stylists had everything that they needed.
She truly works her butt off! 

When Mom was done, she was very happy with her hair. The first photo is of me and Greysen. The second one is of Ariana and Mom!

Thanks to both of them for making today such a great experience.

This is Dawn!

I get a lot of imaging 🩻 done, as a result of my shunt 🧠 and other issues I have.

Because of that, I am a frequent patient at the local imaging office in Odenton.
I have spotlighted several other people from this office before, but this is my first time giving a shout out to Dawn!

Because of my vision impairment, I require a lot of additional assistance when I go to the doctors office.
That can include help filling out forms that cannot be done electronically, and even guiding me safely to a waiting area and back when it’s my turn.

Dawn did all of this today and more! She took the time to help me get signed in, read me paperwork that was not available digitally, and explained things to me.
When my appointment was over, she even offered to walk me outside to where my ride was waiting.
(I didn’t need her to do that, but I completely appreciated her willingness to go above and beyond by offering.)
I know that’s not something that she would normally have to do.

I am so fortunate that I go to care providers that have compassionate and caring staff.
It’s not always like that!

I know that healthcare providers have a tough job and not every patient they work with is in the best of moods and, as a result, often times the provider is on the receiving end of negativity, stress, and probably some fear. Well, it may not always be the intention of the patient to be that way, it can make the care providers job that much more difficult.

That is one of the many reasons I want to make sure I always recognize those who go above and beyond.
