Compliments & Commendations from MC

Compliments & Commendations from MC Hello! I love to acknowledge people who are making an impact! My name is Mary Catherine, but my friends call me MC. It does not need to be a grand gesture.

I spend a lot of time promoting locally owned small businesses and people doing good in the community through my nonprofit, Coffee & Cocktails with MC. However, I created THIS page as a place to acknowledge people that I personally interact with on a daily basis who go above and beyond. If someone has taken a moment to do something that impacts my day, I want to acknowledge them! People work h

ard, and I think people focus too much energy on only noticing the bad. I want to acknowledge the good! People just want to feel valued and feel seen. This is my simple way of doing that. I hope it inspires you to do the same!

I was introduced to this organization when I received an amazing Christmas gift of delicious cookies from them!

Their mission reminds me of that of Second Chance Inc., which also employs folks with barriers to employment.

All the cookies 🍪 I have tried are delicious and I’m so excited to have been introduced to this amazing company.

Rise and Shine Bakery is a 501c3 Maryland Nonprofit. Learn more about our bakery training program for veterans and individuals with employment barriers.

I saw the original story that they aired about this doctor in Baltimore!
I was so excited to see that they featured him again tonight with a story about the secret Santa.

This is Paula and Tony!

Paula and Tony live in Atlanta, Georgia. 🍑
However, they have family in the DC area and so, when they were in town for a quick visit, Paula reached out to me to stop by today to hand-deliver a mug that she had picked up for me!

They had a pretty packed itinerary, so the fact that Paula made a point of going out of her way so they could have a quick visit and bring the mug in person rather than mailing 📦 it to me meant the world. 🌎

When someone does something that they don’t have to do just because they know it will make you smile, that means more than you might ever know!

The mug is awesome, but the visit with two amazing people was the real gift. 🎁

I recently had a little bit of an incident that landed me in the ER 🏥 to get stitches. (I am doing fine, btw.)

While I have their names, I was a little busy getting sewn up to get photos 📸 with any of the medical professionals 👩‍⚕️ that helped me.

So, while I don’t have specifics, I did want to give a shout out to all of the amazing people who helped me out.

Even when we are not at our best and we might be going through something, it’s important to take a moment to acknowledge the people who are working hard to make what you’re going through a little bit easier.
I am so fortunate that I come in contact with amazing people who do that every day!

This is Kenya!

Today, I needed to get more imaging 🩻 done.
I went to the facility I typically go to, and yes, I saw my friends, Dawn & Clara.
However, today was my first time meeting Kenya.
She was there filling in, but is usually at a different location in Annapolis.

Kenya was awesome.
She was taking care of so much! She was handling the front desk, but also made sure I got back to where I needed to be, helped me fill out paperwork because I wasn’t able to read it, and checked on me a few times while I was waiting.

Kenya was a bundle of energy!
And, she’s petite like me :-)
(Read that as a fellow shorty.😂😉)

While I do get CAT scans pretty regularly, I have not had to get them quite so often as I have recently.
So, I didn’t think I’d be meeting anyone new. (I figured I pretty much knew everyone in that office.)
It was so great to make a new friend today.

While I focus on acknowledging the caregivers and people who I come across in my day-to-day on this page, I feel it’s also important to remind people that you can never tell the people in your life enough how much you love them and how amazing do you think they are.

I am so fortunate to have amazing family members and dear friends who are always there for me.

Life can be tough.
Not every day is a great day.
However, when you can have a chat or a text conversation with somebody who you love and trust and makes you feel better, it can change your whole perspective!

Take the time to tell the people in your life how much they means to you!

Today I had an appointment at Johns Hopkins Medicine to have my programmable shunt setting changed because it was not draining enough.
(If you ever have questions about what hydrocephalus is, or about my shunt and how it functions, please do not hesitate to ask!)

I met a physicians assistant, who is on the team and is awesome.
However, my appointment was with, and adjustment was done by CRNP DNP Christina Ritter.
(Link to her profile is in the comments. )

She is patient and so incredibly knowledgeable. She takes the time to correspond with me through messages via MyChart and has even called me after hours to discuss my courses of action.

I’ve said it before, but I am so incredibly fortunate to have access to and get care from the team at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Dr. Mark Luciano the only neurosurgeon I would ever let take a scalpel to my brain, however, Christina Ritter is the person who I know can care for me and understands my symptoms.

Never take your health for granted.
And, make sure that you find a care team that truly understands you and that you feel comfortable with.

This is Tracy!

Tracy is a member of the administrative staff at the dental 🦷 office where I have been going for decades!

When Tony and I were there a few weeks ago for our cleanings, Tracy was not working.
So, when my mother and I went today for my mom’s appointment, I was prepared since I knew I would see her!

Tracy is awesome.
She knows all of the patients and she is very thorough and can answer all of your questions.
She is professional and knowledgeable, but also very fun loving and personable.

Tracy truly cares about the patients and is one of the reasons our family has gone to this practice as long as we have!
The staff is just amazing!

Thank you for being awesome, Tracy!
