Compliments & Commendations from MC

Compliments & Commendations from MC Hello! I love to acknowledge people who are making an impact! My name is Mary Catherine, but my friends call me MC. It does not need to be a grand gesture.

I spend a lot of time promoting locally owned small businesses and people doing good in the community through my nonprofit, Coffee & Cocktails with MC. However, I created THIS page as a place to acknowledge people that I personally interact with on a daily basis who go above and beyond. If someone has taken a moment to do something that impacts my day, I want to acknowledge them! People work h

ard, and I think people focus too much energy on only noticing the bad. I want to acknowledge the good! People just want to feel valued and feel seen. This is my simple way of doing that. I hope it inspires you to do the same!

I spent over 30 minutes on the phone 📱 with the most amazing, helpful, and pleasant customer service representative tonight.
I kid you not, her name was Santa!🎅

I detected a very slight accent, so I asked her if Santa was short for another name and she said no.
I assumed maybe she had a name that was difficult to pronounce and so she offered Santa as an alternative. However, I was wrong.

I told her that I thought her name was very unique and super cool and that it was fitting because of all of the help that she provided to me.
I told her she gave me a gift! 😂🌳🎁

Meet Jillian & Karen!

These are the amazing ladies who I worked with today during my physical therapy appointment.

Jillian is the physical therapist that I’ll be working with every week, but Karen assisted with my appointment today as well.

I adore both of them.
When I met Jillian last week for my assessment appointment, she was so patient with me and quickly learned that I tend to have a bit of a sense of humor.
Fortunately, she doesn’t mind and we were actually able to use that in a lot of ways.

She has already taught me some great tools and given me homework to make sure I keep focused during the week between my appointments.
She’s incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and so personable.
I feel very comfortable with her and know I’m going to learn a lot from her.
She is teaching me the skills and tools I need to keep doing the work at home so that I continue to feel better.

Karen is awesome as well.
She helped while I did some new exercises and activities to get a better feel for my current abilities and what we need to focus on.
She and Jillian are a great team. And, I learned that Karen also has a great sense of humor and is willing to put up with my shenanigans.
She’s super bubbly and loves to laugh, and she’ll do anything you need to make you feel comfortable and safe.
She’s also very encouraging.
I so appreciated that!

I always say it, but I always mean it.
I am beyond fortunate to have such an amazing care team.
I truly feel like everybody has my best interest and well-being in mind.

I’ve only had two of these appointments so far, but they’re already appointments I genuinely look forward to because all of these ladies are not just very skilled at what they do, but they’re new friends.

I love everyone at the physical therapy office where I am getting my vestibular physical therapy.

When I first called to find out more and schedule my first appointment, I had the pleasure of speaking with Adrienne.
She took so much time with me to answer all of my questions and find out exactly what I needed so she could pair me with the right person.
Adrienne was not there last week when I had my first appointment, so I only met her in person today.
It was so awesome to put a face with the name!

Marissa (sp?) was there last week and again today, and was the one who I met before anyone else when I arrived last week.
Seeing that I was disabled and needed a little more help, she was kind and patient and did so much to make sure I had everything I needed.
She was running the front desk all by herself last week, but she did it with a smile on her face and never missed a beat!
Today, these two ladies were the dynamic duo, making everything happen and they were fantastic.

I’m going to do another post to introduce you to Karen and Jill, who I had my appointment with today.

There’s too much to say about all these awesome people and I don’t want it to get lost in one super long post.

Today was a good day.
I had my second physical therapy appointment to get vestibular PT to help with my concussion recovery and working on my balance and mobility.

I had a new pair of transit driver today. Her name was Amber. She was phenomenal! Because of the recent snow and ice event, my front circular driveway that the van drivers can typically pull up to my front porch using is still half covered. So, Amber had to stay at the end of the driveway. However, knowing I was visually impaired, she made sure to get out and come and help me get into the van. This is not something all drivers do. I so appreciated it!
She’s a little shy, so she politely declined my request for a photo. However, I still wanted to give her a shout out.

We have a BAT septic system.
When we bought this 🏠 , we were fortunate enough to receive a grant from the county to get the system replaced because the previous one had failed inspection.

Part of the agreement for the grant is that we pay for a yearly inspection of this system.
The company that does that is Atlantic Solutions.

Usually, the weather is pretty decent when the inspection is done.
However, our yard, and consequently, the septic tank, is still covered in snow❄️ and a sheet of ice 🧊.
So, when the inspection was done yesterday, Colby, the amazing tech who came out to do it, had to shovel 🪏 the top of the tank out so that he could do what he needed to do.

When we’ve had some issues with the system previously, Colby is also the one who has come out before.

I did not get a photo 📸 with him, but I still feel compelled to give him a shout out.
He is very knowledgeable and friendly and goes above and beyond.
The weather conditions he is working in right now are not the best and he is still doing what he needs to do with a smile on his face.

People work hard.
All anyone wants is to be seen.

While another storm ❄️ is currently hitting the East Coast, our area has been spared for this one.

However, a week later, and many folks are still dealing with ice covered driveways and ice mounds left by snow plows at the end of them.

I know many people are frustrated.
However, I wish they would remember that there are logistics that make it difficult when you are running out of room to put the snow ❄️ and ice. 🧊
The crews are not doing it intentionally!
They are working nonstop, and have been doing so for a week now.
A little patience goes a long way, since we’re all dealing with the same thing.

Lastly, a huge shout out to the HVAC and plumbing professionals that are working overtime to make sure people have heat 🥵 and water 💦 as systems are trying hard to combat the freezing temperatures for such a long period, and pipes are freezing and/or bursting.

Patience, kindness, and compassion go a long way.
And, so does “thank you”.😉♥️

Today is National Compliment Day!

I try hard to acknowledge and give compliments to people who I cross paths with as often as possible.

It’s just nice to give somebody some unexpected positive feedback!

Who doesn’t love the compliment, right?

So often we scroll through our newsfeed and we might get annoyed at certain things we see.
Or, we’ll see a post that we don’t think we have anything to contribute to so we don’t acknowledge it and we keep scrolling.

I feel this way sometimes.
However, recently, I’ve really tried hard to look for the positive.
So, even if I don’t have anything to contribute to the comment or conversation, if the person posted a picture that I like to go with it, I’ll at least comment on that.

Is somebody smiling bright in their photo?
Are they having a great hair day?
Or, do they just look happy?

Sometimes, acknowledging something as simple as that can make such a difference.

I’m working hard to do this and I challenge you to do the same.
Give a thumbs up 👍🏻 or make a comment that is positive or could uplift somebody; even if it’s not exactly what their post is about.

This is my goal and I challenge you to do the same!

This is Darryl!

I had a new patient appointment with am ENT 👂 👃 doctor 🧑‍⚕️ today.
It was at a location I had never been to.
Darryl was my driver. 🚌

Darryl was amazing!
As we were driving to my appointment, I was explaining to him about my vision 👁️ impairment and about how I was so anxious because I didn’t know what entrance to go in or where he needed to pull up.
He knew exactly what I was talking about, and he took me right to where I needed to be and helped me out, and got me safely to the door.
However, before even getting there, we enjoyed a very nice conversation.

I was fortunate enough that, when my appointment was over and I called to get picked up, he was even able to come back for me.
I don’t usually have the same driver taking me to and from my appointments, so it was a treat.

He came back to pick me up promptly, but did explain that he had some other pick ups to make before he would get me home 🏡 and was I up for the ride?
Well, you know I was!
He said he thought I would probably prefer to be able to be on my way home then sitting on a bench outside of the doctors office waiting for the ride. He could have waited until he was done with his other stops to come and get me, but he was thoughtful enough to think that I would prefer not to wait.

As I’ve said time and time again, I’m so grateful for the paratransit program that our county offers.
I can safely get to my doctors appointments and have a little bit of independence.

And, on days like today, I can also make some new friends.
