In 1999, Coach Kent Briggs was at a crossroads. Once a rising star in the coaching ranks, he suddenly found himself delivering newspapers just to make ends meet — a humbling and eye-opening chapter in a life built around football. But just when it seemed like the game might be leaving him behind, the phone rang. On the other end? Randy Edsall, with an offer to join the staff at the University of Connecticut.

It wasn’t an easy decision. Briggs was a Southern guy with deep Carolina roots, and the move to UConn was far from familiar territory. But ever the Regular Guy, he packed up and gave it a shot — until he realized that wasn’t where he was meant to be.

Then, fate stepped in.

What followed was a twist of destiny that brought Briggs back home. With timing that felt like it came straight out of a movie script, Kent Briggs was named HEAD COACH at his alma mater, Western Carolina University — a chance to etch his name into the record books and lead the very program that had once shaped him.
