Fall club day recap!

Representatives from De Anza’s student clubs take to the main quad for a quarterly showcase.  With decorated tables and posterboards, dance and music performances, club day gives new and returning students a chance to meet and greet with members of clubs ranging a diverse spectrum of interests from academia to outdoors adventures and everything in-between.

Organized by , club day is held on the third Thursday of each quarter, with over 80 clubs in attendance, according to the ICC.

De Anza’s women’s volleyball team won its home game against City College of San Francisco 3-0 in a shutout match on Wednesday, Oct 1, just a week after beating CCSF away; De Anza now holds a record of 10-9 for its ongoing season. 

The Mountain Lions fought a close battle with CCSF during the first set, but ultimately pulled through to take the set 25-19; as the team gained its momentum through the next two sets, De Anza showed out 25-13 in the second set and 25-3 in the final.

De Anza Student Government pulled $7,570 from its budget to reimburse speaker costs and meals for its leadership training program in early September, at its Oct. 1 general senate meeting in the Student Council Chambers.

The amount included $6,000 for a day-long “LeaderShape” program, which had already been paid for and required reimbursement, and $1,570 for meals provided by local businesses during the weeklong event.

Heads up! De Anza students are invited to meet with representatives from top universities including MIT, Princeton and Yale at the “An Evening With Top Colleges and Universities” event on Monday, Oct. 13.

The event is hosted at Evergreen Valley College in San José, and it includes a Q&A panel from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and a transfer information fair from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students can ask questions about academic programs, financial aid and the transfer process.

The deadline to RSVP is today, Oct. 7.

Debbie Lee, dean of intercultural and international studies, said international students and workers bring different perspectives that enrich U.S. industries.
“We’re probably going to lose out on that with such a prohibitive cost being put on those visas,” Lee said.

Here is the weekly roundup from De Anza College:

The campus bookstore has extended its hours of operation through Oct. 23. The new hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

In other news, De Anza College was recognized in two reports last month for high state and national rankings related to student education and career outcomes. The reports were published by the College Future’s Foundation and the HEA Group.

In addition, the Campus Center’s upper-level restrooms are temporarily closed for repairs. Students and staff can use the restrooms on the lower level of the Campus Center.

Foothill-De Anza Community College District will implement parking regulations in designated staff spaces starting Nov. 1, 2025.

According to an announcement from Chancellor Lee Lambert, the change follows concerns from faculty and staff regarding student parking.

For students and visitors, parking remains free in non-staff parking areas. District employees will be required to display a new parking permit. Temporary permits for the fall 2025 quarter are available for free at the Foothill Police Department in the Campus Center, Room 2103.

The police department will issue warnings for the first two weeks of implementation. For more information, visit https://police.fhda.edu/.
