The 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks is approaching. For those of us old enough to remember that day, there are moments and images burned in our memories. We remember where we were when we first heard the news; we remember the uncertainty of what might be coming next; we remember struggling to grasp the enormity of watching the towers turn to dust, the bravery of the passengers on United Airlines Flight 93, the horror of watching the Pentagon breached and on fire. What do your recall of the immediate aftermath? We would like to publish your memories of that day in the Sept. 11 Cynthiana Democrat. If you would be willing to share, please take a few moments to record your memories and impressions below.

Thanks, Mother Nature. The following is from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet:

Temporary Road Closure Extended for Portion of KY 1940 in Harrison County
UPDATE: Closure is expected to remain in place through Monday, Aug. 24
UPDATE (Aug. 14, 2026) – Due to recent weather delays, the closure on a portion of KY 1940 in Harrison County will be extended through Monday, Aug. 24.

KYTC will advise if additional schedule changes occur.

COVINGTON, Ky. (July 27, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming road closure on KY 1940 in Harrison County for a culvert replacement project that will improve drainage in the area.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 3, a portion of KY 1940 will be closed just south of Steffe Lane (mile point 1.3). The closure is expected to remain in place through Monday, Aug. 17.

Local traffic will be able to access the roadway up to the closure point. Through traffic will not be permitted due to the extent of construction. Work will include removing the existing culvert and roadway, installing a new culvert to improve drainage, and repaving the roadway to restore a smooth driving surface.

Motorists should plan ahead and use an alternate route during the closure. Message boards will be in place to provide advance notice of the upcoming traffic impacts.

Weather permitting, this maintenance project is expected to be completed Monday, Aug. 17. KYTC will advise if additional days of work are needed.
