Last night at Wesley’s baseball game it was Military/ First Responders Night. The 2 years Tiffany has been very involved in organizing this event. Last Year Lt Elizabeth Skipper threw out the first pitch to Wesley, she was the paramedic that treated Wesley from the scene of the accident to Memorial Herman. This year Chief Nations threw out the first pitch to Wesley. He was the first responder to the scene as he just happened to be at the light at the corner next to Cy Fair. At the scene he knew they wouldn’t be able to fly him to the hospital due to the weather and made the decision for the mobile transport.

Last night was the first time I’ve met him in person as I had only spoken to him on the phone from the scene of the accident and traded a couple text messages in the aftermath. To my surprise the first thing he wanted to do was apologize to me for being so direct on the phone that day. Needless to say he certainly didn’t need to do that because without his actions and that of his team that day, Lt Skipper and EMT Vargas, last night may not have ever happened. The fact Wesley is here and able to play baseball is in no small part to what they did for him that day. We will never forget!!

As for Wesley, he is doing well, but still has struggles everyday. He suffered a seizure in August at Fenway Park in Boston, which is his middle name, while we were on vacation and another on New Years Eve at home thankfully prior to going out for the night Tiff and I were here and Lt Elizabeth Skipper came and assisted us that night on her own time. The seizures are caused by post traumatic epilepsy and has been on a daily regimen of meds to help prevent, but many factors can lead to them. Through all of this he is set to graduate high school on time with an associates degree from Lone Star College this year and is set to attend Ole Miss in the fall. Hotty Toddy!

There are no words to describe how thankful we are for Chief Nations, Lt Skipper and EMT Vargas for what they have done for Wesley! Last night was very special and something we will never forget!!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, been a lot of ups and downs for Wesley working through the end of his junior year with school and baseball.

I thought today I needed to post this, for a kid that’s been through all he’s been through and as much as he loves baseball, today he got his first hit since before his accident. Playing at the USA Baseball National Tournament in Peoria, AZ against the West Coast Red Sox at the Seattle Mariners Spring training facility he drove one to left field for a single. Something he’s done many times but this one was special, probably more so for Tiff and I than it was for him. He also closed out an 8-0 win on the mound with a scoreless inning. Absolutely hate that Madison Worley wasn’t able to be here but know she was watching on game changer.

To say that we are proud would be an understatement. The fact that he is able to play is a blessing in its self, to have some success is just gravy.

Keep grinding Wesley there are big things I store for you!!

A couple pretty cool things happened to Wesley this week.

He was selected to be the featured in a story that will air this Saturday on KHOU 11, for Inside High School Sports, they sent a crew out to practice and did a story on him and his recovery.

Also had Vype Texas reach out wanting to do a story on him as well. This was posted earlier this week see the link to the story below.

First off I want to say how proud of him that Tiff, Maddy and I are. He had to handle the interviews himself and answer all their questions the best he could. I have no idea how the Inside Sports piece will look as he won’t tell us, but I did see his answers to Vype prior to publication. He never wanted to be the kid in the accident that had the Traumatic Brian Injury and certainly didn’t ask for any the publicity, but in his answer to one particular question, paraphrasing , “I would never want to trade places with anyone else because I wouldn’t want anyone to have to go through what I went through” knowing he was in gods hands. It would have been easy to be angry and resentful for all he’s been through but in the end he was thankful he had to endure all the hardships and it wasn’t someone else. Wesley sent in all of pictures that are featured, including some pretty rough ones from ICU from right after his emergency surgery. Again we couldn’t be more proud of him.

Hopefully his story helps others get through what ever challenges they may face and gives them hope that better days are to come. Can’t change time just live one day at a time!!

As we have gotten through the emotion anniversary of Wesley’s accident and there have been plenty this week. Yesterday was a pretty cool day and again set off a wide range of emotions.

Wesley was brought in to his game to pitch in the bottom of the fifth with one out and his team down 2-1. He got the 2 and 3 hole hitters out to keep the score there. With the time runnning out Cy Fair put together a great inning scoring 2 runs in the top of the 6th to take the lead. After walking the lead off hitter, Wesley competed his tail off and worked around the walk to hold the one run lead and earn his first varsity W.

Watching the final out, a ground ball to second base I watched Wesley to see his reaction. He was headed to first in case he had to cover pumped his fist and went and shook his catchers hand, nothing out of the ordinary. The teams reaction was more than I would have expected, the coaches and his teammates seemed to be really excited for him as they have all traveled this journey with him it was very cool to see.

On the way home we texted Wesley how proud of him we were and that he’d done great and it typical fashion his response was “ I shoved it up their ass!!”

It was a great day!!

One year ago today, we sent Wesley off to school as if it was any other day, we had no idea that our world would be completely flipped upside down later that day.

I received a call around 4:13 that afternoon and saw the caller ID, I knew it wasn’t good and assumed Wesley had rolled and ankle or broken a finger or arm or something as it was not the first time I’d received a call from a coach at school. What I didn’t expect to hear was that he’d been thrown off the back of the car and that he was being tended to by EMT’s and was unresponsive and that he is being taken to Memorial Herman Hospital. The panic that set in not really knowing what was going on, having to call Tiffany to let her know what’s going on, racing to the hospital. Calling his Maddy to let her know. speaking with the EMT about his condition and what was going on and what could potentially happen. All things that none of us would have ever expected to have to deal with on that day or any other for that matter…

Last night I read through all of our posts here and brought back so many emotions and memories of what has been the longest year of our lives. I can’t even explain the range of emotions that I experienced and I’m just amazed that Wesley is where he is in his recovery. That night a year ago none of us would have ever to thought he’d be where he is today.

He would never be here without all of the unbelievable people he encountered along the way, EMT’s, doctors, nurses, therapists and hospital staff. There is also no way he’d be here with out all of the prayers from all of you he has truly been lifted up through all of those prayers.

Fast forward to today a year later, we again send Wesley off to school making sure he is prepared for the day at school and his baseball game early this afternoon. His daily routine has changed quite a bit from a year ago. Timers set for medications constantly monitoring where he is what he is doing and how we are going to get through the day. All challenges we are happy to have as Wesley is here and still fighting through this journey. All thing considered he is doing great, but he still has a ways to go to be completely healed. His frustrations are real, school is hard, baseball is hard, and having mom and dad monitoring every move he makes is hard. He fights every day to get back to his normal.

So today we are thankful that we get to send Wesley to school today and get to go to his game today. We are forever grateful for EVERYONE that has been apart of his healing and for all the thoughts and prayers he has record along the way. There is no way he or we would have made it with out you all. There are no words that can express what this means to Wesley, Maddy Tiffany and I.

Hold your kids tight, hug them tell them you love them. Every day is a blessing.

Happy New Year everyone!!

I know this is almost 2 weeks past NYE, but I’ve been meaning to post an update.

To say that 2022 was the toughest year for our family would be a huge understatement and we are so grateful that the calendar has flipped to 2023 and pray for better things to come for everyone. I’ve posted pictures of how our family has changed from Christmas Eve 2022 to just before Christmas 2023. I do this because there’s no way we could have survived this last year without each other or without all of you. Tiffany and Maddy have been amazing throughout this whole ordeal. No mother or sister should ever have to see or deal with some of the things they have seen. We are beyond blessed that Wesley survived his accident and has been able to move forward in his journey to complete healing.

We also understand that we aren’t alone in dealing with hardships and tragedy this past year and are thoughts and prayers are with all of you that have suffered loss, battled cancer, injuries, hardships etc. Just know that we are here for you all.

As for a few updates since my last update. First for Maddy she completed the fall semester of her junior year at Auburn on the Deans list and has an overall GPA over 3.70, we are so unbelievably proud of her and her accomplishments. Wesley has managed to complete his junior year fall semester with all K level and dual level classes and was recently inducted into the National Honor Society at Cy Fair High School, this is just amazing.

The reason today is the day I write this update, is because today we have another huge range of emotions running through our house. As you all know Wesley is baseball player and absolutely loves playing the game and has been working out and practicing at some level since April. as we are approaching the 1 year anniversary of his accident, February 23, 2022 at approximately 4:00pm, tomorrow he will PLAY in his first game in almost a year. the range of emotions are all over the place, blessed, excited, happy, anxious, nervous, frightened, but mostly thankful that Wesley has gotten to this point. There is no way to know how it will go and know there will be failure and frustration but also success. He will have won once the first pitch has been thrown and he is on that game anything beyond that will be icing on the cake.

Needless to say he is super excited to get out there, pray for him and all others to have a safe and fun weekend playing ball. And pray for him to get though the frustration and failure that is sure to come.

Thank you all!!

Since my last update Wesley has been very busy getting back into his routine. School, Young Life, baseball practice/lessons, homecoming, golf, corn hole tournaments hanging out with friends etc.

Some highlights. He completed his first 9 weeks in K level and dual credit classes, which all his doctors recommended against taking with 5-A’s and 2-B’s. Words can’t really describe how proud of him we are as he has worked so hard to get his grades to this point. He has been able to practice with the baseball team and has been progressing well there and is still working to get cleared to play in live games, though he did participate in in the Halloween scrimmage. He’s attended many social events including Homecoming which was a big night out for him and all of his friends. He and Austin Godwin won the Cy-Fair Baseball Fundraiser Corn Hole tournament, this may have been his favorite moment of the year, although yesterday was a really big day for Wesley. Almost 9 months after his accident he was able to drive himself to school for the first time. Our emotions have been all over the place on this decision, but to say Wesley was excited would be an understatement, I never realized that it would be an “absolute blast” to drive to school, but apparently it was. We are still working our way back to letting him drive anywhere just yet but will get there. Baby steps. For now he is surprisingly understanding on our stance and knows like all other things he has to put the work in to get there.

Thanks again for everyone that has been part of his healing process, he couldn’t have made it this far without you all.

We pray that he continues to heal and is able to accomplish all his goals.

Everyone please pray for Zoe who was in a very serious accident earlier this week. She is Wesleys age, he does not know her but knows many people that do. We’ve seen the power of prayer work in him so please lift her and her family up as she fights through her injuries.
