A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Cuba earlier today (Monday, June 8, 2026), and it was felt across parts of Florida, including the Tampa area.

THIS THURSDAY, June 11th is the Planning Commission Public Hearing at 1:30 PM
Historic Pasco County Courthouse, Board Room (2nd Floor)
37918 Meridian Ave., Dade City

Then:
Tuesday, June 16th at 1:30 PM – Board of County Commissioners Hearing in New Port Richey.

The Pasco County Board of Commissioners is considering a TEMPORARY moratorium on new data centers and large power users. This would pause new permits, site plans, rezonings, and approvals while they study the impacts.

Why this matters:
- One large data center can consume as much electricity as thousands of homes — straining our grid and raising energy costs.
- Millions of gallons of water daily for cooling, especially risky in Florida’s dry season.
- Constant noise, heat, and industrial pollution 24/7.
- Loss of natural land, wetlands, and habitat.
- Heavy pressure on roads, utilities, and services with little guaranteed benefit to locals.

Palmetto Ridge is a large-scale master-planned community currently being developed by Eisenhower Property Group in eastern Pasco County. It is located north of State Road 52, west of Bellamy Brothers Boulevard in San Antonio. Size spans over 3,500 gross acres. Originally approved for approximately 2,800 residential units and 100,000 sq ft of commercial/retail space.

Early June 2026, Pasco County Commissioners approved an amendment that adds 300 executive housing units and another 50,000 sq ft of commercial space taking away 25 acres from the preservation land (total preservation land 1,997 acres).

The community will feature a mix of housing types, including traditional single-family homes (one upcoming phase alone includes over 800 homes) and build-to-rent units.

It will include an on-site public school site, retail areas, preserved natural land, and a Community Development District (CDD) to handle infrastructure and public facilities.

When analyzing how its massive scale, environmental design, and dual demographic targets function Palmetto Ridge is most similar to Starkey Ranch, Del Webb Bexley (without the age restrictions) and Mirada.
