Dale City shoppers await news as Carter's plans to close local stores

Carter's, the popular children's clothing retailer, plans to close 150 stores across the country this year. The company says tariffs have been a major factor hurting its business.

The Atlanta based company also owns the OshKosh and B'Gosh brands. In Virginia, Carter's currently operates 21 locations.

Carter's hasn't said exactly which stores will close. According to a company announcement, stores will shut down as their leases expire.

This is part of a broader effort to stabilize the company's finances. For now, shoppers in Virginia won't know which stores are affected until those individual leases end.

The retailer hasn't provided a timeline for specific closures.
