Well, 27 years without missing an and we missed you all but last week we were in the Peruvian Amazon working with AP Human Geography and science researcers and educators. Our job was was to make sure the data and projects were all well represented on maps and . To bring a bit of the conference to the Amazon, I wore an inspirational shirt from some of the different conferences over the years. They were a huge hit as was the mapping and storytelling with Esri tools. Thank you to The Morpho Institute for your continued powerful work with educators and indigenous groups in the Peruvian Amazon. As always, thanks to Jack and Laura Dangermond for your continued support of education and in schools. More posts to come on this inspiring work we were privileged to be included in.

I want to give a huge thank you to you all for your amazing birthday wishes! I had decided to make this a quiet day. I did not post but had a full knee replacement on July 22. I am doing well, walking unassisted, and have full extension and flexion. The pain and discomfort can be offputting at times, but faithfully going to physical therapy and doing my exercises each day. Another six weeks is what I am told...so I am confident! While Rog is at work, my faithful buddy Marshall is in charge.

There is one skill all young people need to thrive in the workplace — today and in the future — and it's been around for thousands of years.

"If I could give my 13- and 16-year-old one competence that I think would stand the test of time, it'd be storytelling," millionaire entrepreneur Scott Galloway told CNBC Make It, following a live recording of Vox's "Pivot" podcast at SXSW last month.

The type of storytelling may not matter, because the platforms people use to communicate can rapidly change. The important part is developing an "ability to write well, an ability to articulate ideas, and an ability to present ideas with data, infographics, slideshows," said Galloway.

Galloway is a marketing professor at the New York University Stern School of Business who, in 2005, started L2 Inc.
