The Divine Nine just got a $2.5 MILLION mission.
The King Center and the National Pan-Hellenic Council have launched , a unified campaign calling on members, affiliates and supporters of all nine organizations to help preserve the King legacy. (The King Center)
The goal: at least 130,000 donors and more than $2.5 million raised. Supporters are encouraged to give $19.30 or more, honoring 1930, the year the NPHC was founded. (The King Center)
The money will support preservation and public access to The King Center’s historic archives, expand Kingian Nonviolence education and training, and strengthen the Center as it approaches King100, marking Coretta Scott King’s 100th birthday in 2027 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s in 2029. And Black Greek support for The King Center isn’t new.
The King Center says Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Sigma Gamma Rho provided critical funding between 1971 and 1974 to help restore historic homes surrounding Dr. King’s birth home. (The King Center)
More than 50 years later, all nine organizations are being called to move together.
$19.30 may look small by itself. But 130,000 people moving with one purpose becomes a $2.5 million statement.
