If Security Agencies Can Trace Cybercr+minals, They Can Also Locate B@ndits Who Publicize Their Activities Online — Ex-Army Chief, Tukur Buratai

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retd.), has questioned claims that security agencies are unable to trace b@ndits and kidn@ppers who openly share videos and communicate from their hideouts.

Speaking during an interview on TVC, Buratai said he does not believe authorities lack the capacity to track such criminals.

“I don’t think they failed to locate. If they can locate ordinary citizens or social media influencers, I don’t believe they can’t locate these b@ndits that flaunt their loot or whatever activities they do,” he said.

While avoiding direct criticism of security agencies, Buratai suggested there may be operational reasons behind their decisions, saying, “I would not like to say it is a capacity-building challenge, but I think they may have their reasons.

Nigerian Army rescues 23 k+dn@p victims in Kogi after armed men block highway and att@ck commuters

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 23 passengers who were abd¥cted by suspected k+dn@ppers along the Ayegunle–Bunu Road in Kabob-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, according to military analyst Deji Adesogan.

Security sources said the incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on Monday when armed att@ckers blocked the highway and opened fire on passing vehicles. Several commuters were seized during the a§§ault.

Troops of the 12 Brigade in Kabba were later mobilised after a distress call and moved quickly to the location. However, by the time they arrived, the att@ckers had already fled the scene, Adesogan noted.

During the search operation, soldiers recovered two b%dies and found five inj¥red victims. They also discovered abandoned vehicles at the scene, including two Toyota buses and a HOWO truck.

A follow-up pursuit was immediately launched along suspected escape routes. Under pressure from advancing troops, the k+dn@ppers reportedly abandoned 23 captives, who were safely rescued and evacuated by the military.

The inj¥red victims were taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Kabba, for medical treatment, while security forces continued efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.

Military sources also confirmed that surveillance and clearance operations have been intensified across the area to prevent further att@cks and secure road users.

Terr%rists reportedly thre@ten to f%rcefully marry Kwara Emir of Yashikira’s abd¥cted wives over ₦150 million ransom delay.

Fresh fear has gripped Yashikira community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State after terr%rists who abd¥cted wives of the Emir of Yashikira and other residents reportedly thre@tened to f%rcefully marry the female victims to their commanders if ransom is not paid.

Security sources involved in rescue efforts said the threat followed frustration over delays in ransom payment for victims abd¥cted during a coordinated midnight att@ck on the Emir’s palace and the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters.

The abd¥ctors are demanding about ₦150 million for the release of the victims, estimated at roughly ₦15 million per person.

A security source told SaharaReporters, “The terr+rists have thre@tened that if the ransom is not paid, they will marry off the Emir’s wives and other female victims to their commanders.

He also noted growing concern within the community, saying, “The information was passed to the vigilantes and security personnel through channels connected to the rescue efforts. Everyone is worried because the abd¥ctors appear to be increasing pressure on the families and the community.”

The att@ck comes days after heavily armed terr+rists stormed Yashikira, simultaneously targeting the police station and the Emir’s palace in the early hours of Sunday, May 24, 2026.

A surviving police officer said, “The terr%rists att@cked the police station with the intention to k+ll all of us. They had more sophisticated we@pons than us and they overpowered us before invading the Emir’s palace.”

He added, “Many police personnel on duty were armed mainly with pistols, while the att@ckers carried AK-47 rifles and moved on motorcycles, giving them a significant tactical advantage.”

Residents said the att@ckers spent about an hour in the palace, abducting victims, including women and children, before setting parts of the palace on fire and destr%ying property.

The Kwara State Police Command later confirmed the att@ck, saying 10 persons were abd¥cted during the raid while parts of the palace were burnt.
