President George Bush Turnpike East Branch Comments Sought

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) held a public meeting Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. in the Mesquite Convention Center.
In advance of the meeting NTTA posted various materials including the above mentioned comment form to their website.

NTTA provided three route alternatives for review. Alternative 1 impacts the fewest Mesquite residents and leaves Lawson Rd. south of the railroad tracks at Scyene Rd. intact. Alternative 2 goes all the way down Lawson Rd. to Interstate 20 and would directly impact all neighborhoods and residences along that path. Alternative 3 would disrupt residences along the path of Lawson Rd. north of the Devil's Bowl but otherwise follows Alternative 1's path.

On Aug. 18, the Mesquite City Council approved the City's annual budget for the 2025-26 Fiscal Year. The approved budget will necessitate a tax rate increase, requiring voter approval, per state law.

“This budget addresses the primary concerns of our citizens – safe neighborhoods and improved roadways,” said Mayor Daniel Alemán Jr. “It will also provide for competitive pay for our police officers and firefighters and provide additional staffing and program funding for public safety, libraries, parks and recreation and code enforcement to meet the needs of our growing community.”

Existing two-lane asphalt road along F.P. Lucas Blvd. will be replaced with a new four-lane divided concrete road. The project includes new water and sewer utilities along with a new multi-use trail, a new bridge section, and a new traffic signal at Jaguar Way. Installation of water and sewer utilities are 95% complete, the multi-use trail is 80% complete, and the northbound bridge is 100% complete with new concrete paving. Concrete road construction from McKenzie Road to Cartwright Road started in March and is 90% complete, with traffic being switched by early August and substantial completion in Summer 2025. The project is expected to be complete in Fall 2025.

In the 89th Texas Legislative Session, state lawmakers passed House Bill 1481, signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, prohibiting students from using personal digital communication devices during the entire school day, including instructional and non-instructional time.

Students must keep these devices securely stored and out of reach in their backpacks or lockers during the school day, from the first bell to the last bell, including lunch and passing periods. Students should not hold or have a device in their hands at any time during the school day.

Your partnership is essential in helping us ensure students understand the policy, consequences, and benefits of being more engaged and less distracted by their phones.

Sunnyvale Residents Urged to Take Survey

The Town of Sunnyvale is working to update the Town’s comprehensive plan. The Imagine Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan will serve as the Town’s official guide for land use and development for the next 20 years.
Residents, business owners and operators, property owners, developers and community stakeholders are encouraged to complete the Online Community Survey (https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/4f13844bb0dc4320ab9850cd18b3af9f). The survey contains questions about important issues and opportunities facing the Town that the Comprehensive Plan planning process should address. The survey will be available until Sept. 15. Your feedback is essential to creating a successful plan for our community!
When completed, the Imagine Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan will be the product of the community, with a vision and recommendations guided by valuable input received from residents, business owners, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
Residents should track the project's progress through the project website (https://sunnyvale-tx-comprehensive-plan-2-sunn.hub.arcgis.com/) during the next year to stay informed. To learn more about the process, explore the website or contact the Town of Sunnyvale Planning and Development Department at [email protected] or 972-203-4188.
