UGANDA CHRISTIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND
It is with a heavy heart i share the below. Our dear brothers and sisters in Christ have suffered great tragedy after a severe storm in Buikwe District and Busaana village. The storm has destroyed properties and farms. They have been left with no electricity, food, water, clothing, shelter and just basic necessities for life. They are sleeping in the mud in the wet/cold in front of their properties to try and help protect from thieves from nearby villages stealing anything salvageable of theirs.
Their belongings have been either lost in the mud or blown a kilometre away from the winds. Mattresses are soaked and molded. Bricks have fallen off of houses and blown onto others and hit them in the face and injured them. They don't even have money for an Xray scan or hospital bills or any sort of emergency care.
I first met Fr Prodromos from Saint Paraskevi Men's monastery in Uganda over a year ago during a time of my own desperate need. During the time of Covid when many churches were closed and Priests were not able to visit homes frequently, where they were bombarded with demands and requests from their own congregation, we had connected with Fr Prodromos (one of the Priests at the monastery) for support. Out of his own good will, Fr Prodromos took it upon himself to pray for myself and my family. As many of you know, I have been dealing with a serious illness that leaves me homebound and bedridden most of the time. He has spent 100’s of countless hours and days praying together with my family over the phone for my healing, helping to make even our homes little churches, allowing us to watch and be part of services with live camera and taking on the responsibilities of a Spiritual Father for our family from thousands of miles away!! What an enormous blessing!!
When we could find no other help locally because of the state of the world, Fr Prodromos selflessly sacrificed himself and gave his time, energy and heart to all of our family, especially to myself (Katerina the creator of this fundraiser) to help pray for my healing and well-being on a consistent basis. We have known him for some time and he has become part of our family and a good family friend with a heart of gold who wants nothing but the best for everyone and has never asked for anything in return.
Now he needs our help and although he will not ask, it is our duty to do our best to help him!
The farmland was used to feed the congregation and also earn an income by selling to locals in order to pay for upkeep of the Monastery. We are all concerned that without the income of the farmland, the Monastery is in danger of being lost.
Right now the EMERGENCY NEEDS are of utmost importance which just has to do with survival (food, shelter, clothing, etc). Longterm needs have to do with rebuilding the damaged properties and the farmland.
This challenge goes beyond religion and beliefs, whether you are Christian or not, our ailing brothers and sisters need our help. Their challenge is enormous and we have put a goal of $30k to just get them started, it's difficult to estimate longterm damages.
Please, please, anyone reading this, if you feel compelled, please donate. If you cannot for whatever reason, please share this campaign, so we can get relief to them as quickly as possible.
May your blessing and returns be manyfold!
With Love in Christ,
Katerina Baboulas
