This story changed my perspective:

There was a farmer in a small village with a horse who helped him earn a living for his family.

The other villagers marvelled over the horse and told him how lucky he was to have this horse.

"Maybe," he said.

But one day, the horse ran away.

"That’s so unfortunate," the villagers said.
"Maybe," the farmer replied.

A few days later, the horse returned home.
Bringing with it ten more horses!

"You are so lucky!" the villagers exclaimed.
"Maybe," the farmer replied again.

Next week, the farmer’s son had an accident while riding one of the horses; it kicked him off and broke his leg.

The villagers gathered again.

"That’s bad luck, my friend," they said.
"Maybe," the farmer replied.

The next month, a military officer came to recruit physically strong young men for the war. The farmer’s son, with his broken leg, was left behind.

The villagers were joyful: "Your son has been spared. Luck is on your side!"
The farmer simply smiled.

"Maybe."

What does this teach us?

Nothing is permanent.

The good times don't last forever.
The bad times don't last forever.
This is the circle of life.

Like the farmer, do not get attached to what you are feeling right now.
Keep going with the flow.
