Streets of a Scion is a story of the longevity of pain experienced in the life of one biracial kid by the name of Bobby. It dives into self identity questions that skin color and ethnic background raise, and the effects those characteristics have on the outcome of his choices in life. Bobby takes us on a journey revealing the complexities, test, racial discrimination, and social profiling he experienced within his own family. It speaks to the differences of cultural traditions in urban ethnicites and the effects of passing down racism through generations. The goal is to tell a story that is universally relatable while still exploring unique circumstances. Critics say the film script is thought provoking, and surprisingly not the typical ghetto story you see from urban indie films. It has a deeper meaning outside of the normal hood antics and tales of illegal drugs and violence. A film that doesn’t attempt to reflect the precariousness of simply making wrong decisions, but analyses the root causes of those developed perceptions that affect the decision making process. Director Gabe Duran aims to not only illustrate, but to change a life through cinematic expression.
