What an exciting time to be a board member of the Texas Black Bear Alliance! Our goal is to offer support, resources, and education to ensure the safe and natural restoration of Black Bears to East Texas. We first learned about this guy last summer and are thankful he is still around. We're hoping he decides to stick around!

He’s baaaack! 🐻

The American black bear we’ve been following since July 2025 has reemerged and is currently making its rounds again in Anderson and Cherokee Counties in East Texas.

Thanks to verified reports from the public, we believe this bear successfully overwintered along the Neches River corridor. If so, this would be the first documented black bear to overwinter in East Texas in over 50 years!

Based off reports, this bear is still shy and afraid of humans. 👀 If you see this bear, please report to your county biologist or game warden. (Find contact info on our website at tpwd.texas.gov)

This young black bear is growing fast and could hit full maturity by mid‑summer. Based on its travels, it may be heading toward bear country in Louisiana, Arkansas, or Oklahoma to find a mate.

Black bears are a protected species in Texas. Get tips for coexisting safely with bears at bit.ly/TexasBearSafety or visit BearWise at BearWise.org

We thank everyone for your continued support in helping us track and live with this black bear!

Galveston golden hour looks good on everyone—especially this guy! ✨

I caught this Great Blue Heron enjoying a peaceful sunset vigil, and watching its quiet patience was the perfect way to reset. There is something so grounding about the stillness of our coastal wetlands; it’s a beautiful reminder that nature isn't just a luxury, it’s a vital way to find our 'calm' and get recharged.

Each year for 20 years we have visited Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park and typically see grizzly bears. On average, we come across a couple of moms with cubs and a some single bear sightings. Some years, it's as few as 4 and other years no more than 12.

But something extraordinary happened in May 2025. In just 3 weeks, we observed 41 - yes, forty-one - Grizzly Bears! That's a lot of blonde highlights and impressive shoulder humps! Here is a compilation of the photos we took. A mom and her 2 cubs were not included because we were unable to safely stop. Two photos you will not see the cubs because of the environment. But I promise, they are there!

All but 2 bears were found in Yellowstone, with Bruno and #610 spotted in Grand Teton (last two photos). I was very diligent in recording location and time for each sighting to ensure I was not counting the same bear(s) twice. While we did see some of the same bears multiple times (Obsidian and Beryl moms, specifically), I am confident that each bear or family counted and displayed here is unique.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!
