Operatives of the Ekiti State Security Network otherwise known as Amotekun corps have arrested a man identified simply as Celestine for being in possession of fake new N1000 notes amounting to about N100,000.

The corps commander, Brigadier General Joe Komolafe (retd) who made this known while parading the suspect at the corps headquarters in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, February 21, said the suspect was arrested in Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government Area of the state.

According to the commander, the suspect was arrested following an alarm raised by a Point of Sale (PoS) operator in the community after discovering the fake new naira notes in his possession.

“Amotekun operatives were alerted by some Point of Sale operators on discovery of the fake new naira notes in the area. On receipt of the information, our men swung into action and arrested the suspect with large quantities of the fake naira notes,” Komolafe said.

“Our men were reliably informed that the suspect came into the community with about N250,000 fake new N1,000 notes. He is currently undergoing interrogations at our office here. He will be handed over to the police for further probe and prosecution on completion of our investigation on the matter,"

The Amotekun commander warned members of the public, "to be aware of the activities of those he called unscrupulous persons who may want to use the opportunity of the scarcity of cash in the country to dupe members of the public with fake new naira notes.”

“The suspect went to a local area in Omuo and started spending the money before we got a hint and went after him.He said he specializes in buying kola and bitter Kola saying he was also paid with cash in Lagos,”

“On interrogation, he confessed to the crime and said he was given two hundred and fifty thousand from a factory in Lagos but only one hundred thousand naira was found with him as he had spent N150,000 in the area.”

A staff of the Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, Mr Ademola Adesola, slumped and died wh!le queuing in a bank within the school to withdraw N5,000 new notes.

The Head of the Publicity and Public Relations Unit of the university, Mr Jeariogbe Olaniyi, who confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, said the Grade Level 13 officer drove himself to the school in the morning.

According to Mr Olaniyi, around 11.30 am, the deceased left the office for the bank to collect money from his account. While waiting, he slumped and died in the process.

He said the deceased spent only about 30 minutes in the queue when he suddenly coll@psed and could not be revived.

Olaniyi said he was rushed to the university clinic for attention but all efforts to revive him proved abortive.

He said while Mr Adesola’s d€ath is painful, the university would want to put on record that it had more than one deputy bursar and that the deceased was not one of them.

He said Mr Adesola joined the service of the university as a typist in 1986 and rose to the Chief Executive Officer (Account) on Grade Level 13.

Customers Climb Gates To Enter Banking Hall

A video which surfaced on Tuesday showed how male and female customers climbed gates to enter a banking hall.

Davido Gifts ‘Keke’ Driver N1m For Plastering Photos All Over Tricycle

Music star, Davido, has gifted N1m to a 'keke' rider who has plastered the singer's picture all over his tricycle.

This comes after a video of the driver's tricycle with the singer's picture pasted all over it went viral on social media.

On Tuesday, a blogger Tunde Ednut via his Instagram account shared his conversation with Davido, in which the singer stated that he wants to give the driver N1 million, saying, “ I wan send d boy 1m.”

Hours later, the blogger announced that he had found the driver and that Davido had given him the N1 million he promised saying, “ Congratulations to a new millionaire!!!. Davido has sent him the N1,000,000.”

PHOTOS: Three Arrested Over Fake N17m Notes In Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested three suspects, Faruku Zubairu, Ibrahim Musa and Salisu Mohammed, over fake N17m notes in the Warrah area of the state.

According to the Daily Trust on Tuesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, said the suspects were arrested at Warrah Motor Park with the help of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

Take Your Old Naira Notes To CBN If Legitimate - Buhari’s Aide Taunts Ganduje

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communication, Malam Bashir Ahmad has dared Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state to take his old naira notes to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) if they are legitimate.

Ahmad was replying to Ganduje who faulted the naira redesign policy and described it as a move to scuttle democracy and sabotage the forthcoming general elections.

Ganduje also accused Buhari of introducing the policy at the eve of elections, saying it should have been done in the past seven years or after the election.

However, in a reply to Ganduje and others, Ahmad said they should stop making noise and take their old naira notes to the CBN.

He said, “Many people thought that the people talking about the policy is for the right of the masses, not knowing that they are doing it for themselves. They stocked huge amount of money and they are afraid of taking it to the CBN because EFCC and NFIU (Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit) are watching them.

He, however, replied Ganduje though jokingly, saying, “Baba Dan Audu, President Baba Buhari has ordered that you should take your money to CBN. If EFCC and NFIU certified that they are legitimate, you will receive alert.”

On Ganduje’s allegations that Buhari has scuttled the democracy, Bashir Ahmad said, “I didn’t know that the democracy has decayed until when I contested for elections in Kano, and during the primaries, they rigged the election on the ground that I am a politician from Abuja.”
