Once upon a time, there was a man who lived with his wife in a small village. They had been married for many years and loved each other deeply. However, like all couples, they had their share of arguments and disagreements.
One day, after a particularly heated argument, the man stormed out of the house and went for a walk in the forest to calm down. As he walked, he noticed that the forest was full of tall trees, lush greenery, and colorful flowers. He also heard the sound of a small stream nearby.
Feeling calmer and more at ease, the man followed the sound of the stream until he came to a clearing. There, he saw a small cottage with a wise old man sitting outside. The man approached the old man and told him about his argument with his wife and how angry he was feeling.
The old man listened patiently and then handed the man a basket. "Take this basket and fill it with rocks from the nearby stream," he said.
The man did as he was told, picking up the largest and heaviest rocks he could find and filling the basket until it was overflowing. He then handed the basket back to the old man.
The old man looked at the basket and shook his head. "This basket is too heavy," he said. "You will never be able to carry it back to your house like this. You must empty it and start again."
The man did as he was told, and this time he filled the basket with smaller rocks. When he handed the basket back to the old man, it was still heavy, but not as heavy as before.
"Better," said the old man. "But still too heavy. Empty the basket and start again."
This time, the man filled the basket with pebbles and stones. When he handed the basket back to the old man, it was much lighter than before.
"Good," said the old man. "But still too heavy. Empty the basket and start again."
Finally, the man filled the basket with sand. When he handed the basket back to the old man, it was light and easy to carry.
The old man looked at the man and said, "Just as you must empty the basket and start again with smaller and lighter rocks, so too must you empty your heart and start again with small acts of kindness and love towards your wife."
The man understood the old man's words and walked back to his house with a lighter heart. He apologized to his wife and they hugged each other, making up and promising to work on their communication and relationship. And from that day on, they lived happily ever after.
The moral of the story is that anger and resentment can be heavy burdens to carry, but by starting again with small acts of kindness and love, we can lighten the load and heal the wounds in our relationships.
