Jim McCrain, Acoustic Guitar and Vocals

Jim McCrain, Acoustic Guitar and Vocals He sings! He plays guitar! He tells stories! He entertains! You owe it to yourself to come out and enjoy a night of music and fun! Some will not. So relax!

Songs with meaning, subtle intellect, and soaring melodies: This is an evening of music with Jim McCrain. Following in the rich tradition of the story-teller, Jim weaves a musical tale of places far away, times long-gone, and better days. Whether a tender ballad of hope and remembrance, a light-hearted waltz about simpler times, or a tongue-in-cheek reflection on everyday life, Jim is sure to pla

y a song or two that will delight every listener. Jim performs music from a vast collection of legendary singer-songwriters, such as John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine, Lyle Lovett, Richard Shindell, and Steve Fisher. Some of the songs will be familiar. Each song has a beautiful melody to get lost in, but also has a unique message or commentary on life. Never condescending, but always with a new perspective or fresh way of thinking, an evening spent listening to Jim McCrain is a great way to end your day. Sing along! Enjoy the simple pleasure of listening to a story set to song. Let your mind drift back to the days when you didn't have a care in the world. Listen carefully to the lyrics! They will transport you to times and places that you had forgotten, or had never dreamed existed. It's all about the story!

Thank You to the people that came to our little House Concert last night. It was a great evening for both our audience and performers.

David Wellborn played both guitar and ukulele before taking a break. Stan Milam and Marci Harnden gave an impromptu performance, including an original "Marci" song. Then a special guest star appeared: ELVIS! Yes, David came back to the stage dressed in a resplendent white jumpsuit complete with a sequined cape! He then proceeded to make all the women swoon with his gyrating hips and smooth vocals. David was a hard act to follow, but I did my best. From the reactions of the audience, I think we all succeeded.

Mr Tanner was a cleaner from a town in the Midwest,
And of all the cleaning shops around he'd made his the best.
But he also was a baritone who sang while hanging clothes.
He practiced scales while pressing tails and sang at local shows.

His friends and neighbors praised the voice That poured out from his throat.
They said that he should use his gift instead of cleaning coats.

But music was his life, it was not his livelihood.
It made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang, it just made him whole.

His friends kept working on him to try music out full time.
A big debut and rave reviews, a great career to climb!
Finally they got to him, he would take the fling.
A concert agent in New York agreed to have him sing.

And there were plane tickets, phone calls, money spent to rent the hall.
It took most of his savings but he gladly used them all.

But music was his life, it was not his livelihood.
It made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang, it just made him whole.

The evening came, he took the stage, his face set in a smile.
And in the half filled hall the critics sat, watching from the aisle.
But the concert was a blur to him, spatters of applause.
He did not know how well he sang, he only heard the flaws.

But the critics were concise, it only took four lines. But no one could accuse them of being over kind.

"Mr. Martin Tanner, baritone of Dayton, Ohio, made his town hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. A full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."

He came home to Dayton and was questioned by his friends.
Then he smiled and just said nothing and he never sang again.
Excepting very late at night when the shop was dark and closed.
He sang softly to himself as he sorted through the clothes.

Music was his life, it was not his livelihood.
And it made him feel so happy, it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
And he did not know how well he sang, it just made him whole.
