I'm *quite* a responsible housekeeper (inasmuch as I'm very aware what needs doing, but y'know... Life). Our silly tumble dryer is about a year old. I empty the lint catcher regularly. I was unaware of the existence of a SECOND lint trap [who designed that?!?!] until today.
Behold! A year's worth of laundry, archived in magnificent striations.
*My nearly-13 year old daughter told me to share this. Long time lingerer, first time poster. Frazzled laundress and PA to 6 humans.

I’ve been in my current job for 3 years.
I only use new Bic pens.
I only use one at a time until empty.
So far I have gone through 14 Bic pens. That’s one for every 2.57months.
Dan, 33, struggles to throw anything away. But wouldn’t consider myself a hoarder. Has a thing for Bic pens. Keeps pen behind right ear.

I recently chipped a plate that I really like and sullied up what had been a perfect set of four. I got them on clearance at Ikea over a year ago for something like $3 USD each so it'd be no big loss, but the fact that I can no longer get an exact replacement is what makes this such a devastating mishap.
So I did what any normal person would do-- took it down to my workshop and spent a considerable part of my weekend repairing it.
I first prepped the injury with a Dremel tool and diamond bit and filled it with a 2-part hardening epoxy putty. I leveled it out with medium/fine grit sandpaper. Then went to work mixing acrylic paints to match and recreate the pattern. (I did some painting in high school... that was 22 years ago) I clearcoated and cured it under the proper heat as per the instructions for dishwasher-safe applications. I then wet sanded the repair increasing to 3000 grit, and finished with 3M polishing compound. All materials used food-service safe after rinse.
M, 39.85 years of age, shoe 11.5 US. Loving wife mildly impressed with my color mixing but got tired of the constant updates on the plate.
Edit: somehow I missed the fact these are still available new online, they were just discontinued from the inventory at my local Ikea. Live and learn...

Hello, it's been suggested this is worthy of a post.
I'm almost 44, dull, require omeprazole every 4-5 days, and enjoy thinking about pallets
After much consideration, I 'made' this from a spare wooden pallet.
Instructions -
1. Find a spare wooden pallet
2. Lean it against a wall

This well-used thermos bottle has a long and dull history. It was purchased by my mother during the middle 1960s. She used it to take her morning coffee to her job as a cleaner at a local college until she retired. I inherited the thermos after she passed. My significant other then started using it to take his morning coffee to his job as a carpenter until he retired. During that 20 years, he took the thermos to many, many job sites. The chipped paint and dents were acquired along the way. The plastic handle broke and the carpenter replaced it with a wooden handle. The stopper under the cup was replaced twice. The manufacturer of this product still sells replacement parts because the basic design hasn't changed in 60 years or more. We don't use this often, now that we are both retired. If we needed the thermos, it would still keep our morning coffee hot for hours.

Ran out of stock cubes. Thought it would be a good idea to "stock" up, so bought one box of each of the classic pedigree stock cube breeds: beef, chicken, vegetable. Decanted them into my chosen stock cube tupperware depository, only to find that Tesco don't mark each foil wrapper with a yellow chicky or a red cow or a green leek, which as we all know is the universal language of stock cubes. I now have a tub of Russian roulette stock cubes.
This displeases me.

My father, who is no longer with us fitted this Xpelair extractor fan over 40 years ago. Last week my mother reported that it wasn't working. Between them they kept every piece of paperwork / warranty / manual for every item they ever bought. However, there is nothing to be found for this fan. And no serial number to be found anywhere on the actual fan.
Today I had a look to see what the problem was.
It appears that something stopped the blades turning (probably 40+ years of build up of crud) and the motor overheated causing the central boss of the blades to melt. This caused it to push the fan off centre and not rotate.
The motor still works. Things were built to last back then.
Now I could, and probably should, replace it with a modern one. However, if the footprint isn't the same or bigger there will be dissatisfaction!
Normally I wouldn't be bothered as I would go to the attic and get that ½ roll of wall paper that has been waiting to be used for the last 25 years. However, due to a damp issue some years ago, there is no longer any spare paper left.
So, ideally I would repair this one and it will last another 40 years. This should be long enough not to cause my mother, nearly 90, any more concern, but you never know. People were built to last back then too.
The question is this: What are the chances of getting a new fan blade?
Does someone have a spare one in their collection of bits that might be useful one day?
***EDIT***
Well, after a more relaxing night's sleep than most of the commentators I awoke to a fabulous offer of a fan from another member of this group.
An offer I have accepted in its full glory.
I used to live near him in Essex, UK and who knows, we could share a beer one day!
I expect full blow by blow reporting as the story unfolds and possibly a film or mini series will be in the pipeline.
How many fans will that have! (Sorry)
***UPDATE***
A new to me fan blade is on its way, or will be in the coming days.
A big thank you to Oliver D James for sorting this out and a big thank you to his son who kicked a football through the window, making this all possible!
I will keep you all informed of the progress!
**** More Updates ***
With over 1000 comments I have given up trying to reply to or like each one in a timely manner.
3D printing. Someone (sorry I will tag them sometime) posted a CAD file and another suitably dull and generous person has said they will print it.
Nachos / cheesy Doritos. Despite giving the appearance of such delights I can confirm that the coating (greasy crud) is not appetising. Last night was spent emptying the contents of my stomach after hosting a dinner party with my wife. Yes, every or***ce was employed on multiple occasions. No one else was affected so it might have been the said Doritos.
My Mother. As she approaches 90 (May next year) her four siblings are impressed with her solid constitution, especially having lost her soul mate in the 1980s and surviving cancer over 10 years ago. We are considering if the vet should be called. (Please, accept that in the way it is intended, as a joke. Pity I feel I have to say that.)
New fan. I have had several offers of replacements and Oliver D James, the guy who's son kicked the football at a cosmically sublime time, is going to send a replacement in the coming days.
The Future. I am currently convalescing on the sofa watching Fargo. I live 3 hours from my mother, which in certain parts of America is a dash to the grocery store but here involves some planning. I may not be back to my mother's house before the end of the year.
However, my son, who is equally skilled at pointless repairs, and has no idea that I might ask him, may step in as a kind of Father Son tag team, which has a symetry that I appreciate.
I plan to remove the fan which involves hunting for the right fuse (possibly a circuit breaker but it could be a ceramic screw in one) and giving it a jolly good clean. I might replace the carbon brushes if that is possible.
Unfortunately, this won't happen for a while.
So in the meantime I will sign off and start a new post when the next chapter evolves.
Lastly, thank you everyone for your kind words, memories and wishes.

I was given this toad in 1995, it’s a Spanish natterjack.. it came into the U.K. as a stowaway in a lettuce.. it was thumb nail sized back then.. it’s still going strong, I think it’s 30 years old now, it was probably 1 year old when I got it.
It had a half page write up in the Daily Mail back in 1995. “The toad that came to dinner”

After being refused a second mortgage on McVitie’s chocolate digestives, I’ve gone down the route of supermarkets own brand alternatives. Imagine my excitement when I saw Tesco’s Ms Molly’s brand retailing for 75p and their main brand selling for 85p. Obviously, I needed to purchase both and perform a blind taste test.
Conclusion - Ms Molly’s has a firmer bite and the main brand is a little more buttery. I wouldn’t turn my nose up at either, but the main brand probably edges it.
Simon, 41, size 11, 6’6. The weather up here is the same as down there, moron.
Edit - I feel the need to address some common themes -
1. These biscuits aren’t the same in different packaging. They are subtly different and have different nutritional information on the packet.
2. Molly’s dunk better due to the denser nature of the digestive.
3. Tesco and Aldi are both close to my house and I rate both of their biscuit selections. The other stores are too inconvenient to visit.
4. I marginally prefer the dark chocolate variety of digestive, but they don’t offer a Molly’s version.
Thank you, and I wish you all the very best on your biscuit adventures.

I color matched a cactus at work today and I must say I’m impressed. He’s painting his railing to match his plants (perfect idea) I told him to bring in a photo of his home when he’s done.
Machine shot green yellow and black into a flat medium base white quart if anyone is wondering.
Quick sad update. The machine doesn’t save unless I save it and I did not. So my apologies to everyone that loved the color.
Also don’t get mad at your local hardware store if they don’t let you color match a plant and say it’s not possible. My manger would’ve said no if I asked before doing it.

Very proud that I have raised a new future member of this group.. my lad heard that two books with the pages interlocked couldn’t be pulled apart and instead of taking this as fact he sat there and carefully folded the pages alternatively so he could test it for himself.
He did of course find out that indeed they cannot be pulled apart and I now have two books I can no longer read as i’m not about to sit there and unfold every page 😕

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Just got back from a 4 day break at a well known chain of resorts in the UK, which take advantage of young families when schools are on holidays but are not that bad value if going in term time and utilising all the bedrooms to ensure maximum ROI.
A price of a pint however in the establishment was the princely sum of £7.25, so not such good value.
But, to counter-act the cost of the more expensive pint, they do offer free baby food pouches, which is not clearly advertised so this felt like an immidate win. One would assume pouches should be consumed on site but we took full advantage of accumulating additional pouches to stock the cupboards on return.
Top tips
Request a savoury for mains and a sweet for pudding ensuring x2 at the least per bar visit.
Enjoy the buzz of using different bar and restaurant facilities (even if just passing by, pop in and request) and sound out different servers.
Average cost per pouch £1.50
X37
£55.50 yeald
Circa 20 pints consumed
Giving a reduction of £2.77 per pint
New cost per pint taking pouch yeald into consideration £4.48
