On 6/20/2022 during a routine pump station check Paulding County Sewer Collections discovered that the bypass pump at the Due West sewer pumping station was not operating properly. The vendor dispatched a pump tech to the site. The bypass pump would not prime, the vendor left to get parts to make the pump. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. a sewer overflow began. Pump trucks were mobilized to minimize the effect of the overflow. The vendor repaired the pump and the overflow stopped at 1:30 p.m. An estimated total of 7200 gallons of sewage overflowed from the manhole onto the ground and into Possum Creek. Pump trucks pumped 2500 gallons of the overflow out of a small tributary where the overflow occurred. Signs were placed at the station to alert the public of the overflow location and lime was applied stabilize the area.

Happy summer! The June solstice arrived this morning (Tuesday, June 21) marking the astronomical first day of summer. The solstice is celebrated by many cultures around the world. This solstice marks the official beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt (about 23.5 degrees) toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. (By longest “day,” we mean the longest period of sunlight hours.) On the day of the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives sunlight at the most direct angle of the year.

What Is Flag Day?
Flag Day is a celebration of the American flag that occurs each year on the anniversary of the flag’s official adoption, June 14.
What we know fondly as the “Stars and Stripes” was adopted by the Continental Congress as the official American flag on June 14, 1777, in the midst of the Revolutionary War. Colonial troops fought under many different flags with various symbols—rattlesnakes, pine trees, and eagles—and slogans—”Don’t Tread on Me,” “Liberty or Death,” and “Conquer or Die,” to name a few.
The Declaration of Independence made the adoption of an American flag necessary. Previously, each colony or special interest had its own flag.
On the 14th of June, Congress made the following resolution: “The flag of the United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white, with a union of thirteen stars of white on a blue field …” Official announcement of the new flag was not made until Sept. 3, 1777.

SSO Statement 126 Corporate Drive 06082022
On 6/8/2022 Collection system crews were checking stations following electrical storms from the previous night. At Cadillac lift station, a lightning strike had impacted the station and one pump (pump two) was faulted out. After resetting the faults, the pump was still unable to run. The vendor was contacted and we pulled both pumps. The vendor inspected the pumps. Pump two had a bent shaft and pump one had a seal failure. A bypass around the station has been installed and will remain in place while the pumps are being repaired/replaced. The spill was discovered at 8:00 a.m. and continued until 6:00 p.m. when the bypass was completed. An estimated 12,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed onto the ground and into Mill Creek. Signage has been placed at the creek and lime was applied to the area of the overflow.
