WHAT EXACTLY WAS AROUND SAYLOR’S ANKLE?
This is another detail in the case that I think deserves an explanation.
Law enforcement has said Saylor’s Project Lifesaver transmitter was NOT with her in South Carolina. Authorities reportedly traced that transmitter back to a vehicle at the family’s home in Virginia. Sheriff Blake Andis has also said the specialized Project Lifesaver band must be physically cut off to remove it.
But according to the preliminary autopsy information, the medical examiner/coroner noted that Saylor was found with a strap around her ankle that appeared consistent with a child’s wrist tether.
Even before she was found, the missing-child description reportedly mentioned a pink-and-white “lanyard” around her ankle.
Why would this strap be in her ankle and not in her wrist?
So I have questions:
1. What exactly was this tether?
2. Why was something described as a wrist tether around her ankle?
3. What was the other end attached to, if anything?
4. Was it being used to prevent her from eloping?
And if so, why was her Project Lifesaver transmitter—the device designed to FIND her if she eloped—left hundreds of miles away in Virginia?
To be clear, officials have not said the tether and Project Lifesaver band were the same thing. Based on the information released so far, they appear to be separate items.
There may be an explanation—but right now, this is another piece of the puzzle that needs one.
