Not every military family received the homecoming it deserved.
Some waited.
Some searched.
Some carried unanswered questions for a lifetime.
On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor former prisoners of war, those still missing, and the families who never stopped remembering.
We also recognize that surviving captivity can leave lasting physical and psychological injuries long after release.
For former prisoners of war and their families, some conditions may qualify for special consideration under applicable VA rules, depending on the facts and requirements involved.
Recognition means more than displaying a flag.
It means remembering the person, respecting the family, and understanding the ongoing responsibility attached to their sacrifice.
