🎇 We're working on something special for our July issue — and we need YOUR help.

Whitfield County is about to open a time capsule buried here in 1976. Fifty years of history, sealed and waiting.

It has us thinking — and we want to know what YOU think:

👉 If you could bury a time capsule TODAY to be opened in 2076, what would you put in it? A photo? An object? A note to the future? Tell us what you'd include and why.

👉 And while we're feeling nostalgic — share your favorite Dalton and Whitfield County Fourth of July memories. Parades, fireworks, family traditions, that one cookout everyone still talks about. Photos welcome and encouraged!

Drop your answers in the comments, or email us at [email protected]. Responses and photos may run in Dalton Living's July issue, the Dalton Daily Citizen or daltoncitizen.com! 🇺🇸

Deputies with the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office and officers from Georgia State Patrol's Post 5 in Dalton responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 75 southbound near Whitfield County's Mile Marker 338 early Friday afternoon, which left one individual hospitalized.

According to GSP Corporal Jonathan Day, officers were requested to investigate a traffic crash at 12:35 p.m.

"The investigation determined that a 65-year-old male from Rocky Face who was operating at Ford Bronco was traveling in the middle lane," said Day. "An investigating trooper located dash camera footage that showed the driver appeared to have a medical emergency at the time of the crash, lost control of the vehicle and went off into the inside median, stripping the guardrail with the front of the vehicle."

Day said Life Force was called, but was not able to respond due to weather concerns. Instead, the individual was transported by ground Emergency Medical Service personnel to the Chattanooga's Erlanger Hospital.

"This was a single vehicle crash," said Day. "One minute after we got the call, the local fire department had all lanes closed before they opened up the right lane about three minutes later. At 12:37 p.m., the left and middle lane was still closed."

According to Day and Whitfield County Sheriff's Office officials, all lanes were reopened by 1:03 p.m., roughly half an hour after the crash was reported.

"The (Georgia Department of Transportation) was notified for 20-foot of guardrail damage," Day said. "Investigating officers stated the driver had a suspected serious head injury."

Day said the driver's current condition is "unknown, but serious," with no further information made available by 4:45 p.m. Friday.
