K9 Gibbs Honored With Sculpture and Big Donation

Many of you will recall that we lost Sheriff's K9 Gibbs on August 15th, 2018. K9 Gibbs had suddenly became ill and was diagnosed with a large mass in his abdomen. K9 Gibbs underwent surgery to attempt removal of the mass and repair of his internal organs and passed during the surgery.

K9 Gibbs had been partnered with Sergeant Ryan Swanson for over seven years. They were a NYS DCJS certified Patrol/Tracking and Narcotics Detection K9 team.

To our surprise, we were contacted a few weeks ago and advised that a student named Thomas Young, who is in the adult education program at BOCES, had designed a metal sculpture in honor of K9 Gibbs.

The sculpture was auctioned off in Dansville as part the "Bid Adieu to Diabetes" fundraiser and sold at auction for $11,500. We are told this is the highest dollar amount brought from the metal sculpture auctions in Dansville over the years of doing this fundraiser.

To top it all off, the winning bid was a group of anonymous Dansville residents who wished the K9 Gibbs sculpture donated to the Sheriff's Office on behalf of the people of Dansville for their appreciation of the Sheriff's Office and our K9 Unit.

We thank Tom Young for his beautiful design and we say a very big THANK YOU to these generous donors and to the people of Dansville whose name the plaque will read honoring him.

Tips from GTSC on how to steer out of skid in snowy conditions ...

Slick winter roads can be treacherous. Watch this short video for tips on how to steer out of a skid.

1. Don't hit your brakes: Braking triggers slides and makes existing slides worse!
2. Don't panic and don't over-correct: Over-correcting may send the car into an unrecoverable spin.
3. Turn into the slide: Turn your wheels in the direction the back of the vehicle is sliding.
