A friend of mine was working on a property the other day and he stumbled across this rather unique fireplace. He found it rather aesthetically pleasing whereas I couldn’t disagree more.
Although I must say, where it lacks in artistic value, it more than makes up with its historical intrigue.
If you take a closer look one of the two vertical bricks to the left hand side just below the mantelpiece you’ll see an ‘Accrington Nori.’ This particular brick is cemented in history, firstly because of the name. This type of brick was actually supposed to be called an ‘Accrington Iron’ and either by human error, an elite prank or an excellent bit of marketing, the template was fitted to the machine the wrong way round, hence the name Accrington Nori.
They were used in the footings of the Empire State Building.
Anyone else got any riveting stories about the bricks in this intriguing fireplace before it’s knocked down and lost forever?
