🚨Friendly Reminder as We Near 2026: Please License Your Dogs! 🚨

​For years, many of us felt the same way: "Dog licensing is just a way for the county to get money," or "I'm a responsible owner, I don't need a license."

​Not licensing your dog is a major risk, and here’s why this small annual step is so important—it’s the single most crucial piece of protection for your dog. 🪪

🐾​The Licensing Difference: Proof of Ownership

​In most states, a dog license is the ONLY legal, undisputed proof of ownership.

​Vengeful Ex or Thief? 💥Without a license, a person who steals your dog or an individual with malicious intent can license your pet as their own and legally take them. A dog license generally supersedes all other documents.

🐾​The Licensing Difference: Safety in Crisis 🛟
​If your dog gets lost or is involved in an accident, the difference between a licensed and an unlicensed pet can be a matter of life or death.

✔️​Licensed Dogs: The county is authorized to hold a licensed dog for up to 14 days after mailing a notice of capture to the owner. Shelters will make attempts to contact you.

🚫​Unlicensed Dogs: Unlicensed dogs may be destroyed or adopted out after being held for ONLY 3 days.

​Given that our local animal shelters are full, an unlicensed lost dog is likely to be left to fend for itself or may be euthanized if injured and suffering. 🐶

🐾​The Licensing Difference: Medical Care‼️

​If an unlicensed dog is found injured, THE WARDEN🕴🏻makes medical decisions. 😲

​In our current climate, this often means your pet will not receive life-saving treatment. They may be humanely euthanized 😥, or they may have to wait for days in pain until a shelter vet is available, as shelters must consider their budget for the entire community.

​We, as pet owners, have to take responsibility. Please, make the choice to protect your best friend.

License your dogs today ❤️ it is such a small action for such an enormous layer of safety and peace of mind.

🐾​A Crucial Companion Step: Microchip!

​Don't forget the other half of the safety equation: Microchip your pet and keep your registration details up-to-date!

​Most microchip services allow you to add vital information like:
​Backup emergency contacts
​Medical directives
​Pet insurance details
​Financial responsibility disclosures
​It is always better to be over-prepared when it comes to the security of your furry family member.

🐾 APPROVED RESCUES NEEDED 🐾

Behind every kennel door is a story and right now, seven of our dogs are waiting for the kind heart of an approved rescue partner to help them turn the page. Rosco, Spork, Beowoof, Daisy, Rio, Trace and Reeses Puff each came to us with their own personalities, quirks and needs, but they all share one thing: they’re ready for a soft place to land and a chance to begin again.

Shelter life is stressful, especially for dogs who need a little extra support. But when these pups get time outside their kennels — when they’re given space to breathe, stretch and connect — their true selves shine. ✨ Some lean in for affection the moment they trust you. Others light up when they step into the play yard. A few need patience and structure to feel secure. All of them are deserving. ❤️

Because we have several dogs in need at once, we’re trying to share this far and wide:

🏠💛 Help us keep pups cozy during construction!

Starting Monday, we’ll be doing construction in some of our kennel areas, and we’re looking for short-term foster homes to give our dogs a safe, calm place to stay for about two weeks.

Even a brief break from the shelter makes a world of difference — soft beds, quiet rooms and a little extra love go a long way.
