A few weeks ago, our Day Date turned into one of those “only us” kind of adventures. 😂

You know how you start the day thinking it’s going to be cute, simple, and romantic… and then somehow it turns into comedy, chaos, and a memory you’ll laugh about forever?

That was this day.

I don’t even know if I can fully explain it — you just have to watch the video to hear about our adventure. Between my inability to listen when DJ warns me there will be bugs, the random guy looking at me and laughing, and the randomness of it all, this is exactly why I love our little adventures. They may not always go as planned, but they always give us a story.

Sometimes the best dates aren’t the expensive ones or the perfectly planned ones. Sometimes they’re the ones where you end up laughing so hard you’re just grateful someone had the camera rolling.

Inexpensive Day Date: Palatka Edition ❤️
Yesterday we took a little day date to Palatka and proved once again that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to make a day feel special.
We started with a stop at Angel’s Diner for that classic local charm, then explored a few Palatka favorites including Steamboat Willie’s, Palatka Meat Co., and ended with some peaceful time at Shell Bluff Park.
It was simple, local, and easy — the kind of date that reminds you connection doesn’t have to be fancy. Sometimes it’s just good food, a scenic stop, a little exploring, and your favorite person beside you.
Palatka surprised us in the best way, and this is definitely going on our list of cost-effective Florida day dates.

We spent the day exploring Palatka and found a few fun, cost-effective stops that made for such a simple but memorable date day.
From Angel’s Diner to Steamboat Willie’s, a stop at Palatka Meat Market, and some time at Shell Bluff Park, this one had a little bit of everything — local charm, good food, and quiet moments together.

We’re Amy and DJ — husband and wife, beach lovers, road trip dreamers, coffee-at-sunrise people, and the hearts behind this little brand we’re building together.

Couples Compass was created from our love of connection, travel, second chances, meaningful moments, and finding simple ways for couples to keep choosing each other in the middle of real life.

Behind every guide, date idea, road trip, beach walk, hidden gem, and love story post… it’s just us. Two imperfect people building something with purpose, adventure, and a whole lot of heart.

Finding Hidden Florida Under $20: Pierson + Lake George Edition 🌿🧭

Today’s Couples Compass adventure proved that you don’t need a big budget to make a memory.

We started our day driving from Flagler Beach to Barberville Yard Art Emporium, where we wandered through all the quirky, colorful, only-in-Florida yard art and picked up two mini planters for $2.13 — because every good day date needs a tiny souvenir. 🪴

From there, hunger kicked in, so we stopped at a little Mexican food truck/trailer in Pierson and grabbed 4 steak tacos for $14. Simple, delicious, and exactly the kind of random roadside find we love.

Then we headed to Lake George Preserve, where the views were beautiful, the trails had that old-Florida charm, and Amy had a full mini meltdown after walking straight into a spider web. 😂

We laughed, explored, took pictures, got covered in bug bites, and somehow that made it even more memorable.

After Lake George, we headed home and finished our day date with Pilates together — because apparently our version of romance includes tacos, spider webs, bug bites, and core work.

Total spent: $16.13
Memories made: priceless.

Finding Hidden Florida Under $20 🌴✨

Today we traded the big tourist stops for backroads, small-town charm, quiet views, and a little old-Florida adventure.

No fancy reservations.
No expensive itinerary.
No overplanned schedule.
Just us, a tank of gas, a small budget, and a reminder that some of the best memories are found when you slow down and explore what’s right around you.

We picked a little Florida town most people probably drive past without thinking twice… and honestly, that made it even better.

Spanish update from the Bermudez Beach House 🇪🇸🏖️❤️

One thing we’ve been intentional about as a couple lately is learning Spanish together—and it’s been such a meaningful experience for both of us.

For DJ, it’s reconnecting with language and culture that are part of his story.
For me, it’s about leaning in with love and curiosity so I can better understand the world that shaped the man I married.

Some days we practice words.
Some days we laugh at our pronunciation.
Some days we surprise ourselves with how much we’re picking up.

But every day, it’s one more thing we’re doing together.

There’s something special about midweek moments together. 💙

Wednesday nights have quietly become our nights… our favorite little pause in the middle of busy days, responsibilities, and everything life throws our way. Just time to sit close, laugh, talk about nothing and everything, and remind each other why we choose this life together.

It’s not always the big trips or the big plans that build a relationship — sometimes it’s simply showing up for each other week after week in the same familiar place, with the same smiles, and the same love that keeps growing.

Grateful for this man and our Wednesday night tradition. 💫
