Energy activist Nancy White spoke to the Bowie County Commissioners on Monday, but you can read a full story on what she believes are the next moves for Bowie County in regards to data centers in this week's issue of the West Bowie Post.

An excerpt from her op-ed reads, "Bowie County has always balanced economic opportunity with the character of the place we call home. Project Big Pine and the western Bowie power-plant proposal present real questions about whether that balance will hold. The Governor’s directive gives us a clear path: demand the same transparency the state is now requiring, support his effort, and put a temporary hold on approvals until we know the impacts."

Official Press Release from the BCSO on the incident in Malta this morning.

***PRESS RELEASE 8-8-2026***

On 8-8-2026, at approximately 9:33am the Bowie County Sheriff's Office responded to County Road 3103 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 in New Boston. It was reported that a suspect named "Ken" had stabbed a female and assaulted another female at the home. "Ken" was later identified as Kenneth Eugene Jordan 48 years of age of New Boston, TX. The victim ran to a neighbors home and was pursued by the suspect. The homeowner armed himself and intervened on the behalf of the severely injured female. This good Samaritan held the suspect at gunpoint unit law enforcement arrived.

Deputies from the Bowie County Sheriff's Office responded along with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the New Boston Police Department and the Hooks Police Department. The suspect was confronted while still armed with a knife. Deputies deployed issued Tasers on two occasions but did not gain compliance. Law enforcement also used an OC pepper-ball gun on the suspect without success. The suspect then turned towards the New Boston Police Department K9 and handler, forcing law enforcement to shoot him to end his aggression. He was shot by an officer from the Hooks Police Department. Life saving efforts were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Ranger Division was contacted and are investigating the officer involved shooting. The Bowie County Sheriff's Office is investigating the Aggravated Assaults committed by the suspect that precipitated law enforcement response. One of the victims was severely injured and required helicopter medical response to increase her chance of survival. Her condition has improved and she is expected to survive the attack. Justice of the Peace Catie Hawkins responded and ordered the autopsy of Kenneth Eugene Jordan, He has been transported to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences at Dallas. The investigation has not revealed a motive for the attacks

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office sincerely appreciates our citizen that intervened and likely saved the life of this victim. It was apparent that Kenneth Jordan intended to kill her and probably would have been successful had this citizen not stepped in. We would also like to thank the Hooks Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the New Boston Police Department for their response. We cover a very large County with relatively few Deputies. We rely on other agencies for back-up as they often rely on us to provide the same. A concerned citizen and good law enforcement cooperation prevented this situation from becoming much worse. While the loss of life is always tragic, we are thankful that no one else perished as a result of Kenneth Jordan's actions.
