Help the Sons of the American Legion help 12 families this Christmas

The Lake Orion Sons of the American Legion Squadron 233 is looking for help as it gears up for its largest charity activity of the year, the “12 Families of Christmas” program.

The program annually assists at least a dozen needy Lake Orion area families with holiday meals and gifts for their children, said Squadron 233 Commander Bob Gritzinger.

The squadron is seeking cash donations for the program, or items that can be offered for live auction at the group’s 12 Families fundraiser on Dec. 7. The public is invited to come and participate in the live auction immediately following the Lighted Parade at American Legion Post 233, 164 S. Broadway St. in Lake Orion.

Anyone who prefers to send a donation, please deliver it no later than Wednesday, Dec. 4 to: Sons of the American Legion, 164 S. Broadway, Lake Orion, MI 48362.

For more information, please leave a message for SAL Squadron 233 Commander Bob Gritzinger at 248-693-2782.

Any donations large or small are appreciated and will be recognized and publicized by the squadron during this year’s program, Gritzinger said.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office - Orion Substation is collecting donations for their upcoming Shop with a Hero program.

This program provides kids in the local area who may not otherwise have a festive holiday with a shopping spree at Meijer to buy toys, clothes, gifts for family members, and other items.

The Deputies could use a little help from the community - the department doesn't like to turn away a child who qualifies for Shop with a Hero, and resources are limited. The shopping event will take place on December 4.

You can help by making a monetary or Meijer gift card donation. Drop off donations at the Orion Substation.
