Gerald Griggs, the president of the Georgia NAACP, plans to be in the audience at Ebenezer on Sunday. Griggs is supportive of Biden but is hoping for a message that outlines how he will further address the needs of the people who put him in office, especially when it comes to voting and police accountability.
King’s father, Martin Luther King Sr., was an executive committee member of Atlanta’s NAACP chapter and the younger King worked closely with the organization throughout his career as an activist and on such events as the March on Washington.
Atlanta came to be known as the “cradle of the civil rights movement” because so many activists and organizers resided in the city and based their organizations in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood that includes Ebenezer.
“It’s just so much, and that rich legacy lives on,” Griggs said. “Sometimes, we talk about the legacy of Martin — we have to talk about the legacy of John Lewis, the legacy of C.T. Vivian. All of those seminal figures who are part of the fabric of Georgia, part of the fabric of Atlanta, and we would say a part of the fabric of the NAACP.”
Many U.S. presidents have stopped by Ebenezer Baptist Church to pay honor to its former pastor, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., usually in events around the time of his birthday. But on Sunday, President Joe Biden will become the first of them to do so from the pulpit during a regular morning servi...

As I arrived in Carrollton at the Catherine Hardy Lavender Center, I learned of this amazing Georgian and the hidden citizen jewels of this State. Below you can learn more about Mrs. Lavender from Wikipedia.
Catherine Hardy Lavender (née Catherine Hardy) (February 8, 1930 – September 8, 2017) was an American athlete who competed mainly in the 100-meter dash. She won an Olympic gold medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1952 Olympic Summer Games in Helsinki, Finland. Later Hardy married, had children, and a 30-year teaching career in Atlanta schools.
All roads lead to for the installation of the new officers of the Carroll County NAACP.
