DECATUR, Ala. – On February 6, 2025, at approximately 9:48 a.m., Decatur Fire and Rescue, Morgan County EMS and officers with the Decatur Police Department were dispatched to GE in reference to an industrial accident.

Upon arrival, it was determined an employee was suffering from non-life threatening injuries due to an incident involving a forklift.

The employee was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

DECATUR, Ala. – On February 1, 2025, at approximately 12:12 a.m., officers with the Decatur Police Department responded to Nash BBQ in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from gunshot wounds. The male was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

This is believed to be an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.

DECATUR POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL WRECK:

DECATUR, Ala. – On January 29, 2025 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Morgan County 911 received a call of a vehicle fire on Point Mallard Cir. and Greenwood Dr. SE.

Decatur Fire and Rescue and officers with the Decatur Police Department responded to the scene. It was determined the vehicle was traveling on Point Mallard Cir. before it left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn pronounced the driver of the vehicle deceased on scene.

The crash remains under investigation at this time

DECATUR WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER STABBING:

DECATUR, Ala. - On January 25, 2025, at approximately 10:12 p.m., officers with the Decatur Police Department responded to a residence in the 1300 block of Noble Ave. SW in reference to a stabbing.



Upon arrival, Officers located a male suffering from an apparent stab wound. The male was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.



Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene and began an investigation. Through their investigation, the victim's girlfriend was identified as the suspect. The female was identified as Alicia Alvarado.



Alvarado was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. She is being held in the Morgan County Jail with no bond per Aniah's Law.

DECATUR, Ala. – On January 25, 2025, at approximately 10:12 p.m., officers with the Decatur Police Department responded to a residence in the 1300 block of Noble Ave. SW in reference to a stabbing.

This is believed to be an isolated incident with no threat to the community.

BREAKING: City of Decatur Releases Third-Party Independent Review of the Decatur Police Department

Below is a Statement from City Attorney Herman Marks:

We are prepared later today to release the Third-Party Independent Review of the Decatur Police Department prepared by Green Research and Technology. There are redactions of incidents described both positive and negative whereby personal interests, property rights, pending and potential actions including personnel matters, and the City’s interest would be impacted by the release of those items. It has been our position throughout that we do not desire to impact any civil, personnel or criminal proceedings outside that particular forum. Those items should be processed and handled in those forums in the necessary timeframe accordingly.

It is also our desire that the conclusions and recommendations of the Report be shared so that all parties can work together to address the issues for the betterment of our community. We have worked with Green Research and Technology and are in agreement with their assistance including the redactions that the Report will accomplish that goal.

DECATUR, Ala. – The Decatur Police Department is notifying the community and seeking information regarding a series of reported burglaries that occurred within city limits where the offender has sexually assaulted the victims.



On the evening of April 27, 2024, a burglary occurred on Ferry St. NE where the offender entered the dwelling through an unlocked window and sexually assaulted the victim.



On December 7, 2024, a burglary occurred on Hay Dr. SW where the offender entered the dwelling through an unlocked window and sexually assaulted the victim.



During the early morning of December 14, 2024, a burglary occurred on 2nd Ave. SW where the offender entered the dwelling through an unlocked window and sexually assaulted the victim.



The suspect description reported was a Black male, approximately 5’6” to 5’9” in height, aged between 20 – 45 years old, with a slender to medium build. The suspect covered his face during the burglaries and assaults.



The Decatur Police Department requests that citizens ensure the doors and windows to their residences are secure and locked, especially during the night.



The Criminal Investigation Division of the Decatur Police Department is requesting any information that might be beneficial to these cases or leads to the identity of the individual. Please call the Decatur Police Department’s Tip Line at (256)-341-4636 with any information.

DECATUR, Ala. – On November 18, 2024 at approximately 8:37 a.m., officers with the Decatur Police Department were advised that a female had been struck by a vehicle in the City Hall parking lot.

Officers responded to the parking lot and made contact with a female victim with what appeared to be minor injuries. After further investigation, it was determined that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation in the parking lot with an acquaintance identified as Ty’nisha Reed. It was reported that Reed intentionally struck the victim with her vehicle and then left the scene.

Reed was located at a residence in Decatur and subsequently arrested. She was charged with assault in the second degree and booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
