This was an amazing project that we collaborated on here at F.AVE for Black History Month. OUR HBCU alumni shared their love of their schools with our students. The impact on kids of hearing their teachers talk about their HBCU was pretty wonderful.

The Caldecott Medal winner died of a heart attack on Wednesday. He was known for illustrating over 100 books for readers of all ages, including The Lion and the Mouse and Their Eyes Were Watching God.

In October 2021, a local petition to ban books by Newbery Medal-winning author Jerry Craft resulted in the postponement of his appearance in front of a Texas school district. Shear The Beard!!! A F.AVE Fundraiser Raffle for Adam Smith! Last month, we at F.AVE received the tragic news that one of our 4th grade students, Adam Smith, was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma. Adam and his team of doctors are bravely fighting this disease and we just know that he will come out on top and beat his cancer! In an attempt to raise funds for Adam and his family during this difficult time, we at F.AVE have gotten a little creative. Many students at F.AVE may not personally know our 4th grade teacher Mr. Holliday, but they probably know his beard. It is long, bushy, and it needs to go! Students who enter the raffle will have a chance to "Shear the Beard" in front of a crowd of their peers on Thursday, December 21 at 10:00am! A teacher will be publicly humiliated at the hands of a student... What kid wouldn't want to play a role in that?!? All proceeds will go to Adam Smith's Go fund me page which can be found by clicking the link below. Raffle tickets can be purchased from your child's teacher for a donation of one dollar per ticket. This is a Cash Only fundraiser. Teachers collecting funds will not be in a position to give change, so please only have your child purchase the number of tickets equal to the amount of money you are willing to donate.
