happy birthday to my bestie,

to know her is to love her!

she has the most infectious energy, full of life and adventure.

we can talk about everything - deep topics, spirituality, the meaning of life, or we can talk about nothing and laugh nonstop 😆

I’m so lucky to experience the friendship like the one I have with Merve.

over the past 6 years we have gone on so many life changing adventures together, the four of us creating our own little family 🥹

I look forward to all the memories we will bring to life and the stories we constantly retell from our escapades.

I love you and I wish you a lifetime of health, happiness, and endless adventures!

I hope everyone has the chance to have such an impactful, amazing friend in their life 🌻💛

who else hates throwing away food? 🙋🏼‍♀️

I especially hate throwing away fresh fruit and veggies since I know there are many people who don’t have the access that I do.

with food costs rising and the environmental cost of throwing away perfect food, let’s strive to be better!

swipe for ways to reduce food waste, mostly in terms of fresh items like fruits + veggies

other ways I reduce food waste:

➡️ freezing food/produce before it goes bad

➡️ repurposing leftovers

➡️ adding cooked rice or pasta to a soup

➡️ having a smorgasbord of leftovers

➡️ eating what’s going to spoil soonest first

➡️ buying less when I’m too busy (or if you keep throwing away lots of food)

I would love to compile a list of alllll the ways we can reduce food waste.

save these tips for later!

I might be an amateur gardener, but my parents are pros!

there has not been a time in my life where my parents weren’t growing some kind of food.

gardening and living off the land is in their blood (and mine too!)

being immigrants from Brazil, I noticed early on how connected my parents were to nature compared to American counterparts.

my sisters and I were constantly exposed to unique tropical fruits, visiting nurseries with my parents to seek out new fruit trees.

so when my mom sends me those texts…

what she’s really saying is “I love you” and I receive it that way every time 🥰

my parents are the reason I have a strong love for nature and protecting the environment…

and it’s why I want to share everything I’ve learned (and continue to learn) over the years :)

almost 50 lbs composted - just two adults!!

that’s significant poundage when food and organic waste is so lightweight.

I really don’t think most people realize just how much can be composted in their own homes.

it’s not just food scraps, egg shells, and coffee grounds.

you can compost paper products like toilet paper rolls and napkins, as well as cardboard (no tape/stickers)

hair, fur, nails, pizza boxes… anything that is organic.

organic meaning anything made up of carbon (not to be confused with USDA organic, a certification)

sending our organic, compostable to the landfill (or putting it down the garbage disposal) is hurting our planet and our health.

excessive methane and carbon dioxide are released from landfills, directly contributing to a warmer atmosphere and overall climate.

yes, corporations NEED to be held accountable…

but if I can do my part to reduce the harm, why not try it?

let me know if you compost!
