Lights. Camera. Action! Stevenson's 2019 Symposium finished production, and premiered to the wider Stevenson community to raving reviews. Film producers, writers, animators, and more imparted on Stevenson their wise knowledge from years of experience in the field of film, television, and video games. Joined by an amazing game of family feud at the end, what is there not to love about this small Indie experience? I give it a final rating of 10/10, would see again. From a 1-12 record to an undefeated streak this year, Stevenson's girls' soccer team has rocketed out into their season. "We know how it feels to lose," says junior Lucy Lynch. "Because of a whole different offensive lineup this year, we have way more confidence, which has improved our morale and pretty much everything." Here is to hoping the streak continues and Go Pirates!

Ready. Set. Go! This weekend Stevenson runners set off with schools from all over Monterey County to compete in the 51st Stevenson Cross Country Invitational. Spirits were high with Stevenson students as noted by junior Anna Zhang who, citing homefield advantage, speaks how “the varsity team will be very good… your friends and classmates coming here will boost up morale.” The Meet Director Cleve Thayer, who has run the event since his appointment to Stevenson Cross Country Head Coach in 1986, speaks more generally about the sense of legacy of the event saying, “I thinks it’s pretty cool, I mean anything over half a century... it’s a fabulous tradition.”

For 75 percent of Stevenson’s student population, the spring term signifies the start of the end of an ordinary school year. But for that last 25 percent, the senior class, the spring term signifies the closing of his or her high school career. Throughout the past four years, every senior has learned something of great importance or wisdom that can be passed down to those younger or even guide him or her through the rest of his or her adult life.
Csilla Smith ‘18 and Maddie Strickling ‘18 coincidentally agreed on the same most important thing they learned in high school. They both agreed that “despite setbacks and mistakes and even successes, everyone goes where they’re destined to be,” said Strickling. Others learned that “true friends will stay by you no matter where you are and what happens to you,” says Aishwarya Golechha ‘18. Sophie Jalil also said similarly, “I guess that good friends are important cause they’ll get you through anything.
There are also much more practical lessons that high school will teach a student that will help grow as an adult. Tehya Davis ‘18 believes “The most important thing I have learned in the past four years at Stevenson would have to be responsibility. Our school is super advanced and provides a lot of opportunities for us to learn how to be adults and responsibility is the most important part of that if you ask me.” Additionally, Alex Rodriguez states, “The most important thing I've learned in high school is to be persistent. No one’s going to go out of their way to help you. If you have a question, if you need something done, if you need something answered, go and ask.”
But at the end of the day, high school is such a small chapter in one person’s life. Amellalli Herrera-Alvarez echoed that the most important thing she learned was, “There’s still so much more to learn. While in high school, you may get straight As and totally understand a subject or concept, but you still have a long way to go in terms of learning.”

Some senior wisdom from the seniors of Tusitala:

ARod:
Talk to your teachers, get out of your comfort zone, talk to people you might not always talk to.
4 years go by unbelievably fast, and while you're an underclassman, the majority of the time you just want high school to be over, but there are the moments you will always cherish.
So go out, play a sport, go on dates, make sure you do everything possible so when you think back of high school you have stories to tell about the people you were there with, and the trouble and adventures you all got yourselves in.

Nate:
Make these four years worth reliving!
Spend your time experiencing as much as you can so you can get a sense of what makes you the happiest.
Take advantage of the resources around you that can make your best self even better.
Take in pushing yourself for exams or helping teammates during practice so you feel accomplished as possible by the time your diploma comes.
Your teachers and friends all want you to succeed; trust them and enjoy the ride.

Nancy:
Coming to high school is kinda like dancing in a ballroom. At first you are a little awkward. The music is unfamiliar, you can’t find your friends in the crowd, and you are feeling trapped in the blasting music and people’s sweat. Your high school experience is going to be just like that.
There will be times when you are lost in the crowd. You see other people twirling, bouncing, swinging, and you can’t find something to define your own life. But you are not alone. After a while, you will form your own circle. Stevenson is the place for you to find your path, your passion and your unique move.

Elaine Pappas: Over the past four years, I learned a few very important lessons. Firstly, take all the opportunities you can and don’t waste this time of your life. These four years are such a precious time for growing as a person and all the opportunities you take will shape you into the person you will be. Join sports teams or clubs you wouldn’t have or try out for the play. This is how you will meet your closest friends and make the best memories of highschool. Secondly, trust and rely on yourself. At the end of the day you are the only person you have. Thirdly, trust that you have a plan already made for you and don’t stress the little things.

Csilla Smith: The past four years have been filled with tears, laughter, stress, and happiness. I think that Stevenson has allowed me to grow spiritually and mentally. The best part of this school is that it teaches students to step out of their comfort zones and learn how to define and identify their own individual values and beliefs.
