A LITTLE DEMOPOLIS HISTORY

Did you know that Demopolis has roots stretching all the way back to 1817?

More than 200 years ago, a group of French settlers arrived at the White Bluffs along the Tombigbee River with plans to build a new life—and even grow grapes and olives.

Their plans didn't exactly work out the way they imagined, but their story became part of the beginning of the community we now call Demopolis.

In fact, pieces of that French influence can still be found in names throughout our area today.

Now we want to hear from YOU...
