Please help to spread your kindness and words!❤️ I have been continuously playing through my paralysis journey. It has been increasingly tricky in recent days. We finally found the answer and possible recovery with a fantastic surgeon. I need your help to preserve the function of my hand as a violinist and return to enjoying performing without exhausting my body immensely.

Roughly 12% of people in the U.S. provide unpaid care to family members, a number that will likely increase as our population ages and people with disabilities live longer. Working to ensure long-term sustainability within these relationships is necessary as we look towards the future. For National Family Caregivers Month, join Hannah Soyer, Naomi D. Williams, and Amy Wang-Hiller for a discussion on navigating caregiving dynamics with family members – both as a caregiver and someone receiving care.

That can’t be!! I never shared this!? Well, it was the time we as musicians showed the most of creative self, diversity, and resilience in special time like 2020

Day 22/31: Amy Wang-Hiller, violinist.

Before shutdown, Amy was teaching privately, performing with Shreveport Symphony Orchestra & collaborating with colleagues at UNT College of Music.

She'd already been working on her own mental health by training to become an NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) practitioner, so Amy immediately noticed the emotional toll quarantine was taking on everyone... but after a friend committed su***de 💔 she decided to utilize her NLP training to help others on a broader scale by launching her Thrive x Strive Musician Podcast.

"I believe healing is from within. Our thoughts create our reality, so we are also the ones who can change and heal it. I am still perfectly flawed and always will be, but I am loving this process of sharing my journey of recovery to give people hope and the feeling that they are not alone."

BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
"Making sure that I don't fall into my old pattern of thinking: comparing and competing. They are the worst enemy to our happiness and fulfillment."

💕 She hit the nail on the head there. Comparison, especially when we are starting out with something new, does not serve our growth. We are each on our own journeys. 💕

And what a journey that has been for Amy!

She shares her powerful personal story of overcoming an eating disorder by rewiring her brain through meditation & heightened awareness. She also interviews leaders in the music community to initiate conversations about building a healthy body & mind.

"I believe all musicians have the special strength to heal our own trauma and bring our shadow self to the light."

It is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. 💚Trying to buy new shoes with a spinal cord injury can be challenging for many reasons. My feet were so swollen, which made it even harder. And there are more: the high curvature on top of the feet, the limited hand function, the theoretical idea vs practical application … 🤷🏻‍♀️

I recently just purchased a bunch of shoes to try, and after trial and error, I found this pink Velcro shoes not only cute but now both me and Jason’s favorite. It is easy to take off and get on and even had excellent compression effects.

It is an ongoing learning process for me to find what fits the best, like the clothing issues I ran into after being in a wheelchair, after becoming a quad from a para, after surgeries during postoperative care, after starting the suprapubic catheter, etc.… And this is just life. Changes are inevitable, so all I can do is embrace and enjoy the process.

And I'm also grateful for my wheelchair adjustments that I no longer have the “snow boots”! 🤣- no…It was, unfortunately, just not the best fit for my situation. Without trying to experiment, we will never know what works or not.

I don’t know why my instagram only automatically share on my personal page than this one.

Anyway, it’s a spinal cord injury awareness month. Life with SCI is not sad or pitty but a beginning of adaptive and creative living, opening the mind to possibilities. ❤️
