The bidding closed Sunday, the Christmas trees, wreaths, and holiday arrangements went to their new homes yesterday and today, but the holiday spirit and the benefit to hospice care for Caroline, Kent, and Queen Anne’s counties will carry on, thanks to the Towers Family Historical Museum and their commitment to Compass Hospice’s Festival of Trees, held this past weekend. Kennedy Thomason reports on the Towers family and the relationship established with Compass Hospice’s Festival of Trees. This year’s Festival included recognition of Bill Towers, who saw and met Compass’ need for a home for the Festival of Trees. Mr. Towers passed away earlier this year.

This local couple, married since 1971, have spent decades in service to the local community, both as educators and as volunteers with many organizations. They have done so, not in a showy fashion meant to garner attention, but in a manner motivated by their faith, family tradition, and a belief in community stewardship. Kennedy Thomason interviewed the Wheatleys and shares what she learned about their long history of helping their local Caroline County community.

FEDERALSBURG - The Wheatleys are nothing short of a local power-couple. Since meeting in the hallways of Colonel Richardson High School, they have built their careers, raised their family, and …
