It sounds like a simple question. But if you own property, run a business, employ people, or lease space, the answer gets interesting pretty quickly.

I had my real estate license, but I couldn’t get a brokerage to take me on.

Then I heard an office building was being torn down.

I walked in, knocked on every door, and offered to help the businesses relocate.

That was the beginning of my commercial real estate career.

Twelve years later, I bought my dad’s company.

I sat down with Alberto Salcedo to talk about what happened between those two moments—and what I’ve learned about building a career in CRE along the way.
