This is the kind of local collaboration that makes everything worth it. A local author, illustrator, and creative teaming up to bring a custom plushy to life for Allison’s very first book? That’s the magic.

And bonus, Kim, owner of Illyria- Highland Crochet, purchased the book and is donating it to her son’s school! Local impact on top of local collaboration.

Keeping every step of this project in-state doesn’t just feel good, it makes a difference. It strengthens our creative economy, lifts our makers, and proves (again) that Iowa talent runs deep.

There’s something holy about this part of the journey.

As a publishing company, sure, the goal is to sell books. But if you’ve ever poured your heart into a story, you know… the sale isn’t the moment.

The moment is when an author’s hands finally touch the pages that once only existed in their mind. The moment is when years of “maybe someday” turn into ink and paper. The moment is when someone walks by, stops, and says, “You wrote this?” and you see them own the accomplishment.

That’s the magic. That’s the work we were made to do.

Today, that magic belongs to author Amy Wass and illustrator Gabriella Evans, as they pop up at Barn Happy to share the book that’s been beating in their hearts for years.
