I realized recently that I have been approaching my retirement planning the wrong way.

Following the traditional "Lump Sum" plan for retirement involves saving money during your working years, relying on compound interest and the stock market to grow a nest egg, and then use that nest egg to create enough cash flow during retirement to cover your desired lifestyle.

Here are some problems with that plan (discovered from personal experience): market crashes, taxes, and then inflation right when you need the money.

Here's a new plan - - instead of using your working years to build a nest egg - build multiple durable income streams that are independent of your time.
