FOREIGN INTERESTS MAY BE FUELING #COUPS IN #AFRICA
Let’s get the whole story about #coups in #africa? #NanaAkufo Ado #ecowas
We have heard so much about recent coups in Africa. What we have not heard about is the foreign interests that may be behind some of the coups. At least there are a few African leaders, courageous enough to tell us what may be at the root of the problem. Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo Ado, current chair of the #ecowas group knows something that we don’t know. https://www.africanews.com/2022/03/16/foreign-interests-behind-rise-in-coups-ecowas/
The president of Ghana, who is also chair of the West Africa regional bloc Ecowas, says there is an international dimension to the recent spate of military coups in Africa.
The coronavirus was expected to devastate the continent, but higher-income and better-prepared countries appear to have fared far worse.

A Fair Question: Why No TPS for #Cameroon but Quick TPS for #Ukraine #politico
Beyond the bloodshed, pain, and suffering, the war in #ukraine has raised questions about how quickly the US can grant so-called Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to countries undergoing conflict. As a subject of this conversation, advocates, including members of the US Congress have pleaded for TPS for the African nation of #Cameroon. That has request is yet to be granted, meanwhile, TPS was granted to #Ukraine just 8 days into the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

On Ukraine and Putin, US President Joe Biden is a Statesman! #ukraine
The Atlantic’s Franklin Foer has echoed exactly what is on many of our minds. Foe states in this excellent piece: “Joe Biden hasn’t received the full credit he deserves for his statecraft during this crisis, because he has pursued a policy of self-effacement.” https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/03/biden-answered-3-am-call/626976/
It’s hard to imagine that any of his rivals from the last election could have matched the president’s performance in this crisis.
Global news media said they were suspending reporting in Russia to protect their journalists after a new law that threatened jail terms of up to 15 years for spreading "fake news".
CNN will stop broadcasting in Russia, the news channel said on Friday after the introduction of a new law there that could jail anyone intentionally spreading "fake" news.
International Focus on Namibia Following Discovery of Oil #namibia #fossilfuels #climatechange
There is great hypocrisy taking place when the “big boys” of the world used every ounce of fossil fuel to develop their nations, and yet expect Namibia which just discovered oil off its shores to not develop fossil fuel because of climate change concerns. Our own Tokollo Matsabu argues that African nations should not allow this to happen. https://africanewsmatters.com/international-focus-on-namibia-following-discovery-of-oil/
While major emitters make pledges to end public support for fossil fuel, those same countries are still developing fossil fuel resources.
#AFCON2021 A PR WIN FOR CAMEROON/BIYA GOVERNMENT Paul Biya may be the ultimate winner of AFCON2021. Even while he is considered unfit for the job because of his age and incompetence, his government managed to bring FIFA, CAF, and the int'l community on his side by holding an event some analysts hail as a success. #AFCON2021 #PaulBiya #Cameroon #senegal https://africanewsmatters.com/amid-afcon-cameroon-struggles-with-a-civil-war
The last time Cameroon hosted the premiere African men’s soccer competition was in 1972. That was over 50 years ago.

17 Years of Service to the Community!
Dear Friends,
When I started Africa Agenda 17 years ago, I had no idea it would last this long. The organization was incorporated on December 11, 2004, in Denver.
Seventeen years of commitment to this unique mission to change the news about the African continent has born many fruits — some of which are clearly visible in our community — lives that have been impacted, and many relationships established.
From the incredible people who believe in and support our mission, to the tasks we’ve undertaken, to the discussions about the importance of equity in the news — Africa Agenda remains a steadfast organization. I believe this is only the beginning!
As we head into 2022, think about what we can do together, and how beautiful it is that we have you as our friends and partners. We need your financial support!
Some of our Accomplishments include:
• Published over 5000 stories on both our Africa Agenda & Africa News Matters websites projecting the strengths and capabilities of the African continent. We’ve also laid out issues we think need to be addressed!
• Organized over 200 events that brought business, academic, political, and community leaders together to discuss the importance of U.S. -Africa relations.
• Trained and worked with more than 100 journalists locally and internationally to report accurate African news. Seven students from local universities have completed journalism, as well as international development internships with us.
• Challenged and called out U.S. and international media outlets about unethical journalistic practices we identified. In some instances, we requested corrective action that presents Africa in a fair and unbiased manner.
• Given awards and recognition to over 25 individuals and organizations doing great service that furthers bonds of unity of our global African community.
• Stood up for the rights of journalists and for the free flow of information in Africa and around the world.
• Partnered with dozens of organizations locally and internationally that represent the values of a free, prosperous, and democratic society.
I am asking you to Give to Africa Agenda today. See Link To Give at the bottom of this message.
While this work is important, often it goes unrecognized and without the support needed to sustain it. Your support goes a long way to keep the organization alive. Nothing is too small!
Make a contribution to Africa Agenda right now!
Sincerely,
George Bamu, Founder & Executive Director

Here is our founder and director, George Bamu:
Africa Agenda is driven by the need to change the one-sided narrative of African News. We use this website, journalistic tools, and events, including the Africa News Matters website, as platforms for critical engagement and news analysis about the African continent.
Founded on December 11, 2004 by George Bamu and formed as a 501 C (3) non-profit organization, governed under Colorado State and the Internal Revenue Service(IRS) laws, Africa Agenda’s mission is to foster understanding through engagement with the community, mass media outlets, leaders and lay people.
We envision a world in which the vibrant contributions of Africans and African society make a better life for everyone.
