As a very special part of our virtual show this year Andrew Fredrick created this wicked spin on the nutcracker classic. We reached out to Stephanie Bass-Cambell, Tommy Tibble, Tara Dasilva, Malana Murphy, Jeff Wong, Caroline Jones-Lewis, Kyle Preiser, and Chris Rutledge and sent them Andrews mix and a stocking.

We sent their videos to the incredible Dyson Cambell and this video came out!

The virtual 5K will take place April 22-30, 2021 – you pick the pace and the place, anywhere outdoors! Find out how you can earn your Happy Little T-shirt, commemorative bib number, and finisher's medal at Michigan.gov/DNRHappyLittleTrees.

The 2020 Happy Little 5K raised significant funds to support the production and growth of locally sourced trees to be planted back into Michigan state parks. The support was amazing and we hope to see plenty of new and returning faces this year!

Today is a very special day as the Rise is Resonance program is underway! So excited to share this program with an incredible group of people from around the globe!!

Today as the spark of my own creative endeavour is underway I want to share a little about creative voice & hopefully to spark yours. Today I am sharing with you a soundscaped story of creation from the Vedic Tradition- a story of Saraswati the goddess of wisdom, music, & art. In it we learn how we can bring harmony to the sometimes chaotic nature of creativity in our own lives.

Then in my blog I have shared 5 Steps to Awaken Your Creative Voice. As your might have guessed I believe that every voice has a creative spark & offering. My hope is to inspire yours so that I might someday hear it shared it back to me :)

Nyamarpoa Gates is a non-traditional piece for marimba and mbira. The idea borrows from a John Adams piece called “Phrygian Gates” where “Phrygian” is the mode or scale and “Gates” represent the compositional ideas used. Nyamaropa is name of a traditional mbira piece but is also used to to refer a particular tuning layout. Thereby we have “Nyamaropa” is the scale and “Gates” the compositional idea.

Musical Note -

I used this piece based on its repetitive nature to represent the beginning of something. In this case, the routine tuning of the mbria instrument becomes part of the performance. Just like patterns that we exhibit in our lives become who we are. We Live. We Grow.

The barred spiral galaxy known as NGC 4907 shows its starry face from 270 million light-years away to anyone who can see it from the Northern Hemisphere. Appearing in this Hubble image to shine brightly below the galaxy is a star that is actually within our own Milky Way galaxy.

I shot this video on a drive to my best friend’s wedding. My wife Sarah and I had just left our first International Dark Sky Park overnight at Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania. While navigating through the Appalachian Mountains, we found a little cafe-grocery store just by chance. I have to go to the bathroom quickly turned out to be one of the best stops on our New England Drive-By Tour.

We sat down to eat an amazing egg cheese sandwich then the Hummingbirds came. At least Fifty! Twenty at a time were on these feeders. The rest were hiding out in a group of pine trees to the side of the building. Just brilliant.

Like catching up with a good friend over video chat, here's a little bit of what Yosemite has been up to this month!

April kicked off with one last snowstorm, and since then spring has really been taking off! Waterfalls are picking up, the Merced River is flowing faster, meadows are green and full of birdsong, and animals are active, taking advantage of all the new food sources that are starting to appear. There are even a few dogwood flowers blooming, though most are still just starting to bud.

First visit to Niagara Falls. We stayed at Four Mile Creek State Park. Beautiful family campground. My daugther watched her first movie there. The park rangers hosted an outdoor movie screening of "Croods". Gotta love the Great Nick Cage. lol.

Cape Flattery - The northwesternmost point of the contiguous United States.

We had an amazing adventure around the entire Olympic Peninsula last summer. Truly looking forward to visiting our nation’s nature again soon... Cape Flattery is on the Makah Reservation. It is an Indian reservation of the Makah Native Americans. There where many visitors, hikers, families, and photographers present during our visit. I miss seeing others enjoy the earth's wonders, in person!
