Chris Ilitch has responded to Red Wings fans as the team begins its 101st season.

In a LinkedIn post, Ilitch thanked fans and arena staff for their support on opening night. He also acknowledged the frustration surrounding the team.

“I recognize fan frustrations. I get it and certainly feel the same,” Ilitch wrote.

He said he remains focused on building a championship-level organization. The post did not lay out specific changes.

Dan Campbell faced a direct question about changing defensive coordinators after Sunday night’s 32-26 loss to the Panthers.

“I’m not talking about all that, man,” Campbell said. He said the Lions will focus on improving with their current staff and players.

Carolina gained 445 yards, and Detroit has allowed at least 30 points in three of four games. Campbell said he and defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard will review their options, including adjustments to coverage and personnel.

The Lions had one last chance in Charlotte on Sunday night. They couldn’t finish the comeback. 🦁

Carolina beat Detroit 32-26 despite 412 passing yards from Jared Goff. Sam LaPorta’s touchdown cut the deficit to six late in the fourth quarter, and the defense got Goff the ball back with just over two minutes left. A sack helped end the final drive.

The tougher question is how Detroit got into that position. Tetairoa McMillan caught 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns against the Lions. Jake Bates kept Detroit close with four field goals, but the Panthers scored 32.

The Lions are 2-2. What needs the most attention after this loss?

Jalen Duren spoke for himself Sunday after signing his new deal with the Pistons. 🏀

“I want to be a Detroit Piston for life,” he said at a press conference alongside team president Trajan Langdon.

Duren acknowledged that the negotiations took longer than either side wanted. He also pushed back on rumors about his feelings toward Detroit, saying he had made no public statements during the talks and that some of the stories did not reflect his views.

Langdon welcomed Duren back and called him an important part of the team’s recent success. After weeks of questions about the relationship, both men spoke about moving forward together.

Sam LaPorta and the Lions have broken off contract extension talks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. 🦁

The sides made another push Friday and Saturday but did not reach a deal. Rapoport reports LaPorta wants to focus on football, with a new contract now expected to wait until the offseason.

LaPorta is in the final year of his rookie deal. Pausing talks does not mean he is leaving Detroit, but his future is a bigger question heading into tonight’s game against Carolina.

Three wins and two losses for Michigan’s FBS teams on Saturday. 🏈

Western Michigan held off Buffalo 20-17 with a goal-line stop in the final seconds. Central Michigan beat Akron 41-17, and Eastern Michigan handed previously unbeaten UMass its first loss, 38-14.

Michigan fell 20-14 at Minnesota in the Little Brown Jug game. Michigan State lost 31-3 at Wisconsin.
