Detroit’s boldest ideas are moving to the neighborhood stage.

TEDxDetroit () 2025 is set for Wednesday, November 12 at the Durfee Innovation Society () – the first time the event steps beyond downtown to spotlight the changemakers driving innovation from within Detroit’s communities.

This year’s theme celebrates local creativity and collaboration, uniting entrepreneurs, educators, artists, and visionaries who are shaping the city’s future through action and imagination.

Hosted inside Life Remodeled’s “Opportunity Hub,” attendees will explore TEDxLabs, hands-on exhibits, and talks that reimagine what’s possible when Detroiters come together to share stories, spark solutions, and inspire growth.

Innovation meets impact on Detroit’s East Side.

Samaritas () has opened the House of Innovation, a first-of-its-kind incubator where tech start-ups and nonprofits collaborate to design solutions that strengthen communities and reimagine how care is delivered.

Anchored by early partners MindsEmerge and Pype, the space connects social service leaders with emerging technologies, from AI tools that reduce administrative load to creative programs supporting early childhood development.

Located at 8115 E. Jefferson Ave., the House of Innovation positions Detroit as a national model for how technology and human services can work hand in hand to create systems of care that are smarter, faster, and more equitable.

Sustainability challenges don’t fit neatly into one discipline, and neither do the solutions.

That’s where Research Universities 4 Michigan (RU4M) comes in.
Bringing together Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University, Research Universities for Michigan - RU4M represents one of the most research-driven coalitions in the nation, a collective shaping Michigan’s path toward sustainable progress.

Through its Liveable Futures Initiative, RU4M is accelerating cross-disciplinary research that helps communities face the realities of climate change, flooding, and pollution. The initiative funds new collaborations, builds local partnerships, and connects data-driven research with on-the-ground action.

As a sponsor of the Sustainable Urban Design Summit (SUDS 2025), RU4M is helping bridge academia with practice, turning research into real-world impact and aligning innovation with the needs of Michigan’s cities and communities.

Sustainability has no borders, and this year, Italy brings a global perspective to Detroit’s own sustainability conversation.

As a proud partner of the Sustainable Urban Design Summit ( ), the Consulate of Italy in Detroit, led by Consul Allegra Baistrocchi, continues to bridge cultures through innovation, design, and sustainability.

Italy’s leadership in circular economy practices, adaptive architecture, and renewable energy isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about legacy. A legacy built on craftsmanship, culture, and care for the environments we call home.

Since her arrival in Detroit, Consul Baistrocchi has hosted more than 130 events, connecting nearly 100,000 people through initiatives that merge Italian creativity with Detroit’s spirit of reinvention, from public programming to pioneering sustainability conversations in new dimensions.

Her message for this year’s summit is clear: collaboration fuels progress.
The path to resilient cities begins when we share solutions across borders, industries, and ideas.

Some stories are best told in lines, color, and motion.

At 2023 Sustainable Urban Design Summit, students from the College for Creative Studies translated complex conversations on sustainability into art.
Their sketches captured the rhythm of each panel, tracing how people, ideas, and design connected across the day.

This year, students return to , continuing to document the dialogue between creativity and climate action where design becomes integral to the conversation.

We’re excited to welcome College for Creative Studies back as a sponsor and exhibitor.
