Baldassare "Barney" Ales, the charismatic sales chief who helped turn Motown Records into a music industry powerhouse as Berry Gordy's right-hand man, died of natural causes Friday in Malibu, Calif. He was 85. Smokey Robinson, who was such a key member of Motown as an artist and songwriter that he even served as the label's vice president, told Billboard that “All news of the death of a loved one is bad. Sometimes it’s devastating. The news of Barney Ales’ passing is devastating to me. I loved him so much. Condolences to all of us in his Motown family and his immediate family.”

ADRENALIN TRACK OF THE WEEK:
Awesome early track, written by David Larson. Flash says "This song is a perfect showing of David Larson's youthful songwriting and lyrics. 'Same As I Do' cemented his role in Adrenalin as a major contributor our sound. Working with David on this song gave us all a confidence that carried over on stage." Brian added "It was written giving us the freedom to just lay it all out! Very WHO influenced kinda like The Who with a killer sax man! I got to do my best Keith Moon influence on this...GR8 memories & a shame we couldn't finish what we had started. David was an amazing talent & Spirit!"

ADRENALIN TRACK OF THE WEEK:
Here's a little something new that we just finished up! Mixing footage from a live performance on Kelly & Company with vintage pictures, and the studio track from 'American Heart', it's the "video" for 'Faraway Eyes' -- a tribute to the band's latter years! Marc Gilbert penned the song and brought it to the band in the early 80s. Brian says "It started out as a lyric Marc Gilbert wrote called 'You Came Into My Life' and it was inspired by his wife Nannette who we called Nan and she went to St Veronica's grade school with us. We went through some arrangements over a couple years and Vini Poncia really helped us define this song for the 'American Heart' album. He suggested the change to 'Faraway Eyes' and after recording & mixing was done everyone at the label & promo guys thought it was a great first single...and they were right! At one point is was one of the hottest radio adds in the country. Ted Nugent talked about loving Michael's solo on a morning show interview we did on W4!" Mark adds "I just remember playing with Ted and he came up to Michael at sound check and asked him how he got that effect on the end of his solo and how much he liked it." Flash adds "I remember that one Chaunce ....he gave us a Vernors ginger ale"

ADRENALIN TRACK OF THE WEEK!
One that needs little to no introduction - The title track from the 1983 'Don't Be Lookin' Back' EP! Flash says" A song with a terrific message and so much fun to play! The audience always had a positive response to this song with its great vocals, and Jimmy Romeo took the melody to new places every night!" Brian added "One of my personal favorites and Marc Gilbert hit it out of the park with these lyrics! Also loved Jimmy Romeo's sax solo which was classic! This song was a crowd favorite and went over big every time we played it! I was very happy to see it voted as one of the top Detroit songs of the 80's in the Free Press poll with 'Road of the Gypsy!' Very proud of this song to this day as the lyrics still ring true!"

ADRENALIN TRACK OF THE WEEK:
Great Beatles inspired song written by David Larson with a classic Jimmy Romeo "Clarence Clemons" inspired sax solo that blew everyone away every time it was played live. "After he passed away this song was like a prophetic message to all of us. One of my favorite songs we did with David" Brian says. Flash adds "Classic David Larson! You can't ignore the sincerity of his delivery! With songs like this the best was yet to come!"

Detroit Tiger Denny McLain To Perform Two-Man Play

World Series Pitcher of the 1968 Detroit Tigers, Denny McLain, will be performing a preview of his two-man play to local men and boys at Oakland Church this month. Titled “Ty Cobb & Denny McLain – Tiger Tales,” the play features McLain and actor Norm Coleman as they examine the game of baseball and the retrospective of the lives of Cobb and McLain.
“McLain was brash and outspoken, but his performance on the field more than made up for it,” says Pastor Dominic Russo, head pastor of Oakland Church. “His stellar performance at the beginning of his professional baseball career was a marked contrast to his personal life.” The event will take place during the church’s Men’s Breakfast Gathering on June 20. It is open to all ages, and will begin at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 before Monday, and $15 at the door. Questions as well as a baseball memorabilia auction will take place after the performance.

Faith by Skeleton Crew® for Christmas in Detroit 3

Great song about "Faith" by Skeleton Crew® featuring the late Pastor Henry Covington & The My Brother's Keeper Choir. We met Pastor Covington, who was the subject of Mitch Albom's book "Have a Little Faith", during these sessions and learned of his incredible work in our community. When the choir showed up for the session one of the ladies was outside our front door @ Harmonie Park Studios crying...she said she had been homeless and slept in the park outside of the studio...& now she was singing on a recording called "Faith"...a moment I will never forget. Have a Little Faith...Merry Christmas Detroit!

50 Years After His Death, Sam Cooke's 'A Change Is Gonna Come' Is More Relevant Than Ever

Thursday marked the 50th anniversary of the death of Sam Cooke, the greatest soul singer of all time. It also marks roughly 50 years since the release of his greatest song, the civil rights anthem "A Change Is Gonna Come." Originally released just weeks after his death, Cooke's 1964 masterpiece was in many ways an anthem for a nation in chaos. Considered his greatest composition and since preserved in the Library of Congress, the National Recording Registry has called the song "culturally, historically or aesthetically important." It is just as culturally relevant today as ever before. In fact, it's more necessary now than ever.

This is the reason why it's such a legendary song.
