The Gordie Howe International Bridge has been delayed.

The long awaited Detroit to Windsor bridge was expected to have a ribbon cutting this Friday, with traffic reportedly set to begin Monday, June 15.

Now, officials say the opening is being pushed back as the U.S. and Canada work through unresolved issues.

The bridge has been under construction since 2018 and is expected to become a major new crossing for trade, travel, pedestrians, and cyclists between Detroit and Windsor.

A new opening date has not been announced yet.

[UPDATE 6/11/26: The opening is now delayed indefinitely. The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority announced Thursday that the launch has been postponed while the U.S. and Canada continue negotiations.]

The Gordie Howe International Bridge is getting ready to open.

After years of construction, the new Detroit to Windsor crossing is now targeting a June 15 opening to traffic, with a ribbon cutting expected this Friday.

The bridge will connect I-75 in Detroit to Highway 401 in Ontario and create Michigan’s first walkable and bikeable link to Canada.

The multi-use path is expected to be about 1.5 miles long and will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross between Detroit and Windsor.

A major moment for Detroit, Windsor and one of the busiest trade corridors in North America.

Detroit’s historic Thomas M. Cooley High School is set to be demolished this summer.

The school opened in 1928 on Detroit’s northwest side and became one of the city’s most recognizable high schools. It closed in 2010 and has sat vacant ever since.

The site is now planned to become a $25 million sports complex for students and the surrounding community.

For many Detroiters, Cooley is more than an old school building. It’s a piece of neighborhood history.

Indian Village is one of Detroit’s most historic neighborhoods, and it has been standing since 1895.

Located on the east side the neighborhood was built during the rise of Detroit’s auto industry and was home to some of the city’s most powerful families.

Over 350 homes were designed by some of Detroit’s most celebrated architects, including Albert Kahn, and feature 17 different architectural styles.
