The Joe Louis Greenway is approaching a major milestone.

While the full 30 mile loop is still under construction, new segments currently underway are expected to open in 2026. Once those sections are completed, more than half of the greenway will be accessible, marking a significant step forward for one of Detroit’s largest infrastructure and public space projects.

The greenway is designed to connect neighborhoods, parks, and regional trail systems by transforming former rail lines and underused land into safe routes for walking and biking. It is a long term investment in connectivity, access, and quality of life, built steadily over time.
