Where: The Spirit of Detroit at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building
DETROIT - In the wake of the brutal murder of legal observer Renee Nicole Good, grassroots
activists, legal advocates, and Detroit elected officials are gathering to speak out against I.C.E
and the reign of terror they are inflicting on our communities. We are calling upon all people of
conscience to denounce and resist the escalation of state violence perpetrated by the Trump administration at home and abroad.
Good’s death was the result of a viciously racist and xenophobic campaign against the Somali
immigrant population of Minneapolis. Several Black leaders are worried about what this
escalation of state repression means for the majority-Black residents of Detroit, its immigrant population, and those who stand with them.
We believe the time to act is now! Municipal
leadership at the highest level in Detroit should actively call for an end to ICE activities such has been done in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Portland. Speakers will be calling on other leaders in faith, civic, community, and labor, and most importantly Detroiters, to join us in speaking out against Trump, ICE, and state violence against oppressed and working
class people across the country.
Speakers at the press conference will be speaking about how Trump’s ramp up of ICE and his aggressive foreign policy against Latin America and Venezuela affect Detroiters and why we
need the Mayor and city council to oppose ICE’s presence in Detroit.
